Under the American Recovery Act, Hughesnet collected 59 million of taxpayer funds to provide rural broadband internet service where none was available.

There is no broadband, or even mail delivery here , and when i first signed on 2+years ago and they didn't acknowledge the subsidy then.

When i went to upgrade to their new Gen 4 satellite, they refused to honor the Recovery Act suppliment then either. Same for our friends and neighbors. Even though it's mentioned on their websites and clearly defined on the Recoveryact.gov/broadband government website.

We helped pay for their fancy new satellite with taxpayer money, and so far as i can see, they simply pocketed the money.

Meanwhile, the multiyear service contract i had to sign  with Hughesnet provided progressively slower service because they oversold their capacity.
