My home was built in 2003 and Hurd windows were installed throughout.  In 2009 a large atrium window began to 'fog' between the panes.  The distributor dutifully replaced it.  Earlier this year (2012) I noticed another window with the same issue.  Upon contacting the distributor they advised that Hurd was not honoring the warranty any longer as they had been acquired and the acquirer was not honoring the warranty under which the windows were purchased.  Two months ago I noticed that 7 other windows in my home were experiencing the same failure.

Upon contacting Hurd I was read their boilerplate response about how they were purchased from bankruptcy and the buyer did not purchase the warranty liabilities.  Gee, I wonder why?  After discussions with three people at Hurd they were steadfast that they were not responsible any longer, offered no solutions, and showed no shame that they had defective products in the market under the same brand name that they continue to sell today.  It is my opinion they know they have a lot of faulty windows in homes and have taken numerous steps to avoid any responsibility for their defective products and will likely continue to do so.

I will never buy anything with the Hurd name, and have strong advice for anyone who is considering doing so - caveat emptor!  Further, if you are considering doing business with a distributor or contractor who represents Hurd windows, you should ask yourself why.  Window distributors are well aware of Hurd's problems, yet many continue to carry their products.  My advice?  Choose with whom you do business very carefully.
