Hurley State Bank never sent a bill. Consumer ripoff
I received a phone call on 2/25 from a collection agency, claiming that I had an unpaid balance on my J. Jill credit card in the amount of $209.72. Since this is a card I use infrequently, I did not recall the amount or even receiving a bill. They referred me to a phone number of the bank to call and I tried to get through but was put on hold. I decided to call J. Jill directly.
The customer service rep who assisted me was able to isolate the charge to one I made in August for $45.48. I did remember making that purchase but never received a statement of any kind from J. Jill so I had forgotten about the purchase. She assured me that I could explain that to the bank and clear the matter up.
I again tried the bank phone number and spoke with Manuel who told me it was my responsibility to call if I didn't receive a bill. He insisted that I was liable for all the late charges and finance charges that inflated the bill to $209.72.
I find this business practice unconscionable. I have an excellent credit rating since I do pay my bills on time and I refuse to be bullied by Hurley State Bank. I am returning my credit card to J. Jill, along with a letter encouraging them to disassociate themselves with such charlatans.
