This past summer I started working for Jed Hartweg's roofing and siding company Husker Exteriors. At first, Jed, the owner seemed very professional and seemed to be a genuinely good person.  He taught me everything I know about roofing and siding sales. I started getting a real bad feeling about his business practices when one of my friends that had done work for him before told me to watch out for him because he didn't pay them on a bathroom they did for him. Another time a friend of mine read in the newspaper that one of his crew members went to jail on drug charges! When I asked him about it he said he knew nothing of it and the next thing he said shocked me.  He said "one thing you have to remember is never believe the things you hear and half the time you shouldn't even believe what you see!" Now I understand why someone would have to hide behind a rule like this. After working for Husker Exteriors all summer as a salesman for nothing but commission, when it came time to be paid he cut me a check for $50 on a job that he told me I was to be paid about $350.  His only comment was "what goes around comes around!"  His reasoning was I wasn't there full time because I had to work another job to pay the bills! On these jobs I was selling I was told I would be making 30% of the profit on a job. But when I turned in my last job for the season, which by the way he was making $2500 in profit from, he told me I undersold it? Well I guess his $2500 for doing nothing wasn't good enough. His way out of paying me was I didn't make the company the 30% profit so he had to go sell the customers again on a higher price and re-write the contract on it so in turn he told me he owed me nothing. I want nothing more than for people to know how greedy and deceptive Jed Hartweg can be as a business owner. I have since moved on to a roofing and siding company that doesn't overcharge its customers and takes care of its employees. The best advice I can give anyone looking for any home remodeling company is shop around and do your research on a company because what you hear from people you can trust is usually true!!!

Having also worked on a commision basis I had to learn the ins and outs of (projected) income and (actual) income based on acutal profits. It is the duty of the outside sales team to fully understand pricing and the sliding scale on which it is based. We were very up front with this practice. The one job in question actually had to be renegotiated by me to save it due to the fact that lack of experience and incomplete pricing knowledge severely undersold this job. There would have been no comission given and a loss would have been taken. We as a company are very competetive in pricing and have to be to to survive with todays economy. Price gouging and overcharging has not been and never will be a practice of our company which has been a member of this community for 10 years. We regret having to ever be in the position to respond to claims such as this. Production and job responsibility coduct has to bear on the shoulders of the employed.
