I purchased my 1999 Hyudai Elantra brand new in July of 1999. I have had a few problems, all thankfully covered by their warranty.

Then between 99,000 and 100,000 miles I brought it in for service becuase I was having problems with my transmission (it was already replaced once at 48,000 miles when reverse stopped working) The dealership told me I needed a transmission fluid flush and was almost due for one. I did the flush and all seemed fine for a few thousand miles.

Now I am over the 100,000 mile warranty period and the transmission is acting up again. I work for a dealership (NOT Hyundai) and had an oil change done they noticed the transmission was acting up so the checked the fluid. They told me that the transmission fluid is VERY dark and should be flushed. This was just done a few months prior and should only need to be done about every 60,000 miles.

I contacted Hyundai with my concern, basically that the transmission problems were documented and started before the 100,000 mile warranty was up. Unforatunately the dealership misdiagnosed the vehicle at the time, and Hyundai refuses to do anything because I am now over mileage.

So even with written proof that the transmission problems started before the warranty was up (keeping in mind it had already been replaced once) they were unwilling to cover any repairs because it was now out of warranty. They even tried submitting a "Goodwill" request but it was denied because I was out of warranty. Well obviously I was out of warranty or I would not have been put in for this Goodwill program the offer.

It really is sad that even with written proof that it started before the warranty ran out Hyundai will have no part in helping me to repair the vehicle.
