On June 09, 2002, my wife and I decided to go look at the Suzuki Grand Vitara XL-7 at Hyundai of Santa Maria. The salesman told us that there was a $1500 rebate, and we really liked the vehicle so we decided to get it. The payments were right up at the end of our range, but we said ok. We had the truck about a week and they called us back in for a "re-write". This is where they tell you about all of your issues that they knew about when they first ran you credit report, and tell you that they need more money, or it's going to be a higher interest so your payment is going to go up.

I told them "no thank you" and that I would like my trade in back. This is when the finance man got the General Manager, who then made some quick adjustments. "Miraculously" the general manager was able to take off an extra $1500 to keep our payments where they were at, so we agreed.

When I got home, I looked at the original sticker price which was $22714, and realized that they had charged me $22071 for the vehicle. WHERE'S THE REBATE?? WHERE'S THE EXTRA $1500 I SUPPOSEDLY GOT TAKEN OFF THE PRICE???

Watch yourself if you ever need to deal with these people. I'm sure that they will continue this practice in the future. Stand up for yourselves and don't take the re-writes lying down, and ALWAYS check your numbers. Hopefully if they are worth their weight they will contact me and take care of this.

I find it hard to believe the GM of the Hyundai dealer really called anyone back to rewrite at a lower interest unless there was another reason. It might happen if the dealer were to change the rate from 19% to 12%, the customer thinks he is doing better when he really quals for 6% or 8%, the dealer pockets the difference. I also thought the F&I guy did all this and why is the GM involved ? Could be the GM has a better handle on things then most or what? As for why more poeple don't write in and say "thanks". Probably because it is such a rare thing. Good Luck.

Spot Deliveries and Re-Writes.

You've missed the point the re-write was not a negative... adjustments where made to the sale price to accomodate either a cut back in terms by the bank or higher rate, the customer acctually benifited from it.

In gerneral I have in cases where the bank has declined the terms dramatically lowered the selling price (even to below cost) just to maintain customer satisfaction, how is that a neagative for anyone but me? I don't know about your state but in California people are in love with thier cars and when they buy one they want one NOW!!!! I'm a dealer not a bank, we arrange for financing but we do not have the final say... we write the deals according to bank guidelines. At times the banks in their credit verification process can't either verify the stated income on the application or other items and approve the deal with stipulations such as higher rate, shorter term or require more down payment. All vehicle sales contracts in California are "subject to credit approval" and verification of information on the consumers credit application. You would be surprises by how many people mis-state thier incomes by $200-$600 per month because they think it will get them a better rate and then get upset when they are called on it by the bank. So yes Re-Writes are a part of my business... I have re-written two customers this week for lower rates and better terms than they originally signed for, because the bank came back at a lower rate than we originally anticipated... I re-write customers for higher rates as well as lower rates.... The ones that get higher rates always argue that we are "screwing them" and in most cases I'm the one that gets "screwed" because I end up trying to accomodate a customer with flawed credit by reducing or even eliminating any profit just to accomodate them, and hopefully maintain customer satisfaction and in turn I still have a bitter customer... most understand but there are the few that in looking back I should have just recinded the contract and let them go elsewhere to buy.

The customers that I do re-write at better terms simply say "thank you" and don't write in to web-sites like this one... so I'm forced to defend my company for things that are "disclosed" at the time of sale explained in detail and are beyond my control.

The customer cleared up the misunderstanding over the rebate. That spot delivery tactic was not cleared up, and thus remains a negative for all to see.

Maybe you can post a rebuttal and show us how a re-write is a good deal for the customer.....

I would like to thank our customer for revising his statement to reflect that it was a misunderstanding on his part and upon review of the contract with our staff it was concluded that the information was correct.

Customer satisfaction is our #1 goal and priority.

I do regret the fact that allthough by the customers own admission this item was resolved and of no fault of our dealership, this website continues to post what could be interpeted as a negative comment reflecting our dealership.

After talking to them, I see where they credited my rebate, just beware of being called in for rewrites.
