I Buy Power Ripoff! poor quality product, refusal to honor warranty, rude customer service Monterey Park California
i bought a laptop from ibuypower, which had a broken LAN port, and the DVD drive and USB ports were quirky as well. only worked part of the time. i immediately tried to return it, the company said they sent me a label, but i never recieved it, and now they claim i never asked for one.
later the PCMCIA slot broke, and again i tried to return it. no such luck, they kept asking me to hold but sneakingly hung up on me instead. now, the computer will turn itself off at random times, apparently because of a defective video card and motherboard, but still all they do is lie about sending me labels and hang up on me.
on march 2nd 2005 they told me that they would send me a mailing label and i could return the computer for a 100% refund. when i called back in april, they told me they would not take the computer back and hung up on me. i'm convinced that their plot is to keep blowing me off until my warranty is expired.

it wasn't until after i filed a complaint with the better business bureau that the finally aggreed to take my computer back for repair, and they sent me an RMA number. the guy who called me, lee, even said that if i could talk to the rep who promised me a refund that i could still get it.
at this point, the only problem is that the RMA number that was emailed to me and the one lee gave me is one digit off.
unfortunately, of all the reps who said i could get a refund, i only remembered the name of one of them, daniel. however, i was lucky that when i called daniel and spoke to him, he told me that he remembered promising me a refund, before i even mentioned it to him. also, he remembered the name and extention number of the person he transfered me to that day (steve) who had hung up on me. i asked lee about steve, and it turns out that steve didn't leave notes in the system about talking to me that day, but there was evidence that he was the one i talked to on feburary 21st, the guy who put me on hold for hours! so i asked to talk to steve's supervisor, and this is where it goes downhill.
i've barely begun to speak to his supervisor, bryan, about steves rude behavior, when bryan interupts me to tell me he is friends with steve, they've been working together for over five years, and he doesn't believe a thing i'm accusing him of. then put me on hold without asking. when i come back, he says that he put me on hold so he could get a drink of water.
i complain to him that it's not correct to blatently accuse a customer of lying and to blow them off so. i complain about steve for a while longer but byran tells me several times that he thinks i'm lying.
now, i realize i'm not getting through at all. steve obviously is not going to be punished for being so rude to me, so i just tell bryan that i am returning my computer, as promised by daniel, and then he puts me on hold again. for about another 10 minutes.
when he comes back, he tells me that daniel doesn't work for the company anymore (yeah, i just talked to daniel less than an hour before, and i should mention i've talked to him since. he still works there now.) and that the offer for the refund is no longer valid. so i ask him what the correct RMA number to have the computer returned for a repair is, and he tells me that because of my 'lying' about steve, i will not be given the number.
i'm telling him that i was promised a refund and i am going to send the computer back to get it, and he replies smuggly, "heh. good luck doing that without an RMA number."
so i ask to talk to bryons supervisor, to which he response "i do not have a supervisor, i am in charge. i make all the decisions." i say there has to be someone who supervises over him, who signs his paycheck, and i want to talk to them. the owner of the company, if necisary. to which he responds "you're talking to him. i am the owner."
according to the better business bureau, darren su is the owner of ibuypower. also, i called back and talked to lee and daniel, and they both thought it was ridiculous that bryan said he was the owner of the company.
bryan then told me that ibuypower was closing and he was going to hang up and call me tommorrow (this was yesterday, so he said he was going to call today). the time that i called back to talk to lee and daniel was 20 minutes later. the company was not in fact closed. i was lied to again.
also, as i mentioned, bryan said he would call me back today. he has not, and ibuypower is now closed. for real.
do yourselves a favor, DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH THIS COMPANY AT ALL. with the exception of daniel, all twenty-or-so employees there i've talked to have been rude, sneaky, and unprofessional.
