I inquired about a horse, got a very nice email returned, and since I could not go to the state to see horse, the seller was willing to have horse shipped to me on a trial basis then if I liked him I would pay for him. The explanation being that she and her husband had been in a car accident and were no longer able to ride. That was the explanation as to why he was not so expensive. I had seen other horses comparable so thought it was indeed a good deal.
The first moving company I was not comfortable with so she got another one that required me to Western Union $603 for the horses air flight and hauling to my home. After the confirmation that he had gone through quarantine etc. and was ready to be put on a flight they said "oh by the way he has to be insured, send $1067 and then you will get it all back except $80 at the end of the flight"
I emailed the owner and she said I needed to pay it right away. I told her "no way", she emailed me back and said she would pay $400 if I would pay the rest. Again "no way" from me.
It is my understanding the owner pays for insurance in any case. I have not heard anything more, I asked for the telephone numbe of the flight company and of course don't expect to hear from the seller with that.

This is a common scam. No real person is going to fly a horse across the country on a "trial basis". The big tipoff is the use of Western Union. Basically, you sent $603 of untraceable cash to someone you don't know. Don't expect to ever see that money again. Had you fallen for the phony insurance payment, they would have kept coming back with various fees and costs until they were sure they couldn't squeeze another penny out of you.
