Idearc Media Corp. I closed my business in October of 2004. While planning my closure, I did not agree to advertise in any phone book, newspaper, or in any media-related source DFW Airport Texas
FOUR YEARS after closing my business in 2004, I was recently notified by a collection agency, Joseph Mann & Creed, that I owed $274.80 to Idearc Media Corp. They stated that this company had "been in contact with you and you have not honored this debt". I had no idea who these people were or who they represented and was never contacted by anyone regarding my closed business. I suspect that since they are affiliated with the Verizon company, this must have been for a phone book ad that I NEVER placed.
With no money and with plans to close in several months, I know I NEVER agreed to any advertising, especially to a couple of hundreds of dollars worth! I was flat broke from my failing business.
Since I was a corporation and closed my business in the state of Washington where I was registered, can I still be required to pay and will this ruin my personal credit score? I have been struggling to build up my score for 4 years. I wish I knew what to do. I'm thinking about sending my complaint to the attorney general here in Washington, Rob McKenna. I know this isn't a huge amount of money, but it's the principle behind the crap that bothers me.
