I have been an IIB Associate for more than 3 years and I thank very much the person who maybe unwillingly showed us this website which gives us at last an opportunity to say what we think.

I apologise for not giving my true name, but IIB management threatens anyone who criticizes them of being sued and they would be obviously more powerful than us during the long and costly processes of court.

Mostly everything has been said by my colleagues in the previous message. IIB has a recruitment process which is both attractive and clever (telling people they have been severely selected, and the organisation will allow them to become a successful consultant thanks to the IIB network).
The truth is that anyone, having a small experience and know-how is welcome as long as he can pay.

By the way how successful the IIB associates are?
Nobody knows. IIB is very cautious in not allowing any survey and they have a very efficient process in order to keep silent any unhappy consultant who wants to mean that he is disappointed. If he complains ,he will have immediately four IIB management accomplices reprimanding him publicly, stating loudly how satisfied and successful they are thanks to IIB, and that the Associate failure is due to the amount of time he spends complaining instead of working hard. They will claim though a mass-e-mail (mail sent to all associates) that IIB is the best organisation as it was a worldwide admitted obviousness, assuming that only mediocre or lazy people will not succeed within IIB.

In fact, all the Associates I know here have made very little or no business with IIB, some do not renew their subscription after 2 or 3 years, others do but just because they do not want to admit they have lost their entry fees. Personally, I have neither got any business from any IIB Associate, not given any business to any. Fortunately I make some money from other ways.

What is funny is, IIB is supposed to be a non profit organisation, which is probably true for many Associates, but probably not at all for the stakeholders behind it.

Wasters and under-achievers are not for IIB

Basically the purpose of the Rip Off Report is a laudable one if it is to provide an opportunity to the individual for defence and recourse against any adversary that may have taken advantage of the little man or even worse, taken him for a ride, taken his money etc.
If through the Rip Off Report, the little man can get his come-uppance on corporate or private adversary in matters which can actually be proved beyond a shadow of a doubt, then you have served a great purpose for all individual consumers.
However if the Rip Off Report is a mere staging post for mal-contents, ill-contents , misfits, non achievers and dissidents who wish to apportion blame for their own inadequacies and personal failures onto their adversaries without indisputable and substantial proof, then you are actually doing a disservice to one and all.
This is the case with recent postings from disgruntled and failed would-be associates of the Institute for Independent Business (IIB). By providing a platform for negative and defensive people to have a go at the IIB for not making them into effortless and instant success stories, you are undermining the 5000+ business executives who have worked tirelessly and seized their opportunities to make a success of their association with the institute.
The Rip Off Report does not seem to provide any substantiated factual accounts of the background to complainant's cases' against the IIB, choosing just to publish and be damned' all sensationalist input. No effort seems to be made to investigate and substantiate people's sob stories' and get the other true side of the story.
This is very unfortunate, so this is for the benefit of prospective IIB associates to reinforce the fact that the IIB is not for everyone, and that success is achieved only as a result of one's own endeavour and commitment.
I myself had to fight off pressure to avoid the IIB and am glad that I relented and have become a member of an incredibly strong and exciting association, realizing my own hard earned success, working with a great network of like-minded people, and having great deal of fun into the bargain.

IIB, what I experienced as an associate!

#6UPDATE Employee

Wed, March 04, 2009

I have been an IIB associate for more than 4 years, and I have seen hundred of associates joining and few leaving. Over the years I took the time and made the effort to understand why people join and why they leave and I think I have something to share with you.

First, I think it is unethical to claim that IIB management threatens anyone who criticizes IIB, anyhow, if you are really dissatisfied and truly unsuccessful then you have nothing to worry about, go ahead and make your voice heard via the legitimate channels which the Institute has established (I believe IIB make use of professional services organisations maintain those channels, and they are independent).

Second, the concept of by associates for associates is the main engine that drives activities in our community worldwide, and it is up to us as associates to succeed or fail as a community, the shared knowledge and resources that the associates create and maintain are the most powerful I have ever seen in my career.

I joined IIB after 20 years as a senior executive (C level) with $80B company. For family reasons I decided start from ground zero. I looked around me for opportunities and applied my experience to question the substance in every business opportunity, finally I decided to join IIB, due to the following facts:

1) IIB was presented by an associate, not a sales person (I believe the same practice still in place today)
2) IIB was clearly positioned as a training and accreditation body
3) All contractual arrangements was sent by email and allowed me one month to review and encouraged me to ask questions to IIB associates and recruiters
4) I did my reference checking, and applied my business experience to evaluate the opportunity based on merits
5) IIB provided me with the launch pad and the professional environment to succeed, however, success and/or failure is for us to claim, and I was determined for nothing less than total success, and I got what I asked for!
6) I remember a list of deliverables which was presented and delivered without any exception
7) IIB provided me with the best network of associates around the world who have the highest level of integrity and second to none in their fields of expertise (I trust that you are one of them!)

I do maintain direct contacts with all associates in my region, and I know that success is a relative matter, someone like me working 6 days a week will be successful, others who opted to work two days a week and enjoy life early retirement are also successful (I will do the same in few years from now!), it is what you want to achieve that matters.

I am sure you still remember your days as an executive in the corporate world, can you recall the Code of Conduct that your company used to have, can you recall the professional standards that you used to follow when you communicate with others around you, do you recall any disciplinary action being taken against a professional who violated the Code of Conduct abused the system?? The fact that we left the corporate world doesn't mean that we act without any controls or codes, as professionals, we have to operate ethically and professionally. Now, try to imagine the opposite, professionals working without any regulations or guidelines, I hope that will help you to understand the benefits of the Institute governance system.

In life we make choices, we may learn from success stories around us, but we should not blame others for our failure.
