I found out a few days ago when I went to look at my Verizon Bill that I was being charged for a "need the info" service. I had never heard of it. It was 19.95 plus taxes which came out to 21.15 extra onto my bill.

I promptly called the toll free number to find out about this charge. The person that answered put me on hold for 3-4 minutes and then finally addressed my question. She insisted I signed up for this service "online" and promptly reads off an email I had years ago. This apparently was the email that was used for the "signup". It was a defunct adelphia.net email and I hadn't used it quite some time. The company went bankrupt and I no longer have access to it. I told her this and that obviously the order was fraudulent.

I thought the connection went dead because there was silence and I had to say "hello" a few times . She finally responded that she would cancel my service but I would have to pay the previous charges. I said I did not authorize the service. and shouldn't have to pay She says she has to go by the internet order. I ordered the service so I have to pay.

At this point, I am frustrated and angry. I demanded to speak to her supervisor or even the head of the company. She said she would transfer me and the number rang and never was picked up. I tried calling back but no answer.

I called Verizon and they said they would take the charges off the bill but that ILD would probably bill me direct. I am NOT paying this charge. I have filed complaints with the FCC and the consumer bureau and will continue to address this fraudulent company. I have sent them a letter which states my position( as I can't get them on the phone) and also states I am reporting them.

I had sent a priority mail letter with signature confirmation to the Need for info customer service. I had not been able to speak with a supervisor as the phone rang but was never answered. The letter was received Saturday and by Tuesday i received a call. In the letter I told them I would NOT pay the charges and that I was reporting them to the FCC, better business bureau and other consumer agencies. I did report them to all of them. The message was garbled but it sounded as though they were still charging me. I called the number on the caller ID ( not the 800 number she left) I asked for the supervisor and was asked who I was. I said a very unhappy person. I was quickly put through to the supervisor and she told me immediately I would get credits for the charges. She told me her name, employee id number and will make sure everything is fine. So I guess threatening them did the trick. The woman was very cooperative. Now we shall see if the credit gets listed on my bill
