I HAVE A FRIEND WHO IS REPORTED TO THE ILLINOIS SEX OFFENDER LIST. BEFORE YOU GASP HERE IS THE STORY 17 YEAR OLD BOY STARTS DATING 15YEAR OLD GIRL WHO IS LYING ABOUT HER AGE SAYING SHE IS 17 ALSO. 17YEAR OLD BOY FINDS NEW GIRLFRIEND AND THEN 15YEAR OLD GIRL HAS PARENTS PRESS STATUTORY RAPE CHARGES. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY IT IS FAIR THAT A PERSONS LIFE SHOULD BE RUINED FOR 15YEARS BECAUSE OF THIS ONE INCIDENT. NO ONE WAS RAPED NO ONE WAS HARMED AND SHOULD WE ACTUALLY HAVE TO SEE PROOF OF AGE BEFORE WE SLEEP WITH SOMEONE.

WELL HERE IT IS 6YEARS LATER HE NOW HAS 2 BEAUTIFUL CHILDREN A WELL PAYING JOB AND A WONDERFUL FIANCE. BUT HERES THE PROBLEM HE HAS DETECTIVES CHECKING WHERE IS LIVING AT ALL TIMES, HE CAN'T MOVE INTO THE APARTMENT BUILING HE WANTS TO AND HIS JOB JUST IMPLEMENTED A NEW CRITERIA IN WHICH IF YOU ARE A SEX OFFENDER YOU CAN'T WORK THERE.

SO BECAUSE OF A TEENAGE ROMANCE BREAKING UP IT HAS COME TO HIM NOT BEING ABLE TO FIND A JOB TO PROVIDE FOR HIS FAMILY AND NOT LIVING IN THE AREA WHERE HE FEELS WOULD BE BEST FOR HIS FAMILY.

NOW I'M NOT SAYING THAT HE DIDN'T MAKE A MISTAKE THE LAWS ARE SET FORTH TO PROTECT US AND OUR CHILDREN BUT WHY SHOULD A PERSON WHO WAS 17 AT THE TIME AND HIS GIRLFRIEND WAS ONLY 2YEARS YOUNGER BE PUNISHED AT THE SAME LEVEL AS A RAPIST OR A CHILD ABUSER.

15YEARS IS A LITTLE EXTREME IN THIS CASE MABEY 5YEARS WOULD BE MORE SUITABLE. IT RIDICULOUS THE WAY THAT OUR JUSTICE SYSTEM WORKS PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKES AND IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT YOUR LIFE CAN BE RUINED BY A CHILD WHO WAS NOT HONEST IN THE 1ST PLACE.

The real problem... is the prewedded sex

I was rather offended by you saying the real problem is the prewedded sex. There is nothing wrong with that. We do live in a different time you know. Just because you have sex without marriage doesnt make you a bad person.

Getting a girl pregnant and not taking responsibility or being unsafe about it and spreading aids and the like is what makes it bad. The Real problem is what the original post pointed out. The real problem is that the system is setup to protect liars as well as the honest. The real problem is the underaged girls that lie to get what they want figuring that they wont go to jail so its not their problem.

I live in a city full of girls like that and it makes me sick that you practically have to put on a shirt these days that says "I Card" before you go out.

The other problem is people who think they are so high and mighty as to tell someone who's life was ruined by a liar that he needs to suck it up and keep his hands to himself.

Gary, I am still shaking my head over your response to Sarah. i am so sorry that it is illegal to have sex before marriage (in your dreams)!!! I take it you are another"sunday christian" that espouses his knowledge of "god's law", has his wife and kids terrified to look at him in case he lashes out and then goes to church on sunday to confess his sins and that gives him a clean slate to go and do it all again!! Sarah's friend could be your son, my son or perhaps, god forbid you or I. Sorry no that's right you didn't have premarital sex did you? I did and I could have been unknowingly in exactly the same position as Sarah's friend. Unfortunately at that age I didn't ask to see proof of age so who knows - there but for the grace of god go I!! Grow up Gary and look at the real world. I am not a christian or any other religion but I do follow the ethic of treat people as you would like to be treated yourself. It works - come down off the high horse you are riding and stand in the other persons' shoes.
Sarah's friend doesn't deserve to be on a sexual offenders list any more than you or I do. Keep supporting him Sarah and don't worry about the Garys of this world - they are incapable of looking outside the square. I hope your friend has the courage to keep his head high and enjoy a wonderful marriage with his chosen lady. Life does get better!

The real problem here is...

Sarah,

You fail to understand the root cause of your friend's problem. It is not the fact that your friend is required by state law to register with the sex offenders program; rather it is the blatent promescuity of your friend. He had sexual relations with an unwed minor! You continued later in your report that he is now engaged and alreay has two children. Again, sex before marriage. Do you see a pattern here?

Like Robert Blake says, "Don't do the crime if you can't do the time..."
