I received a letter from Illinois tollway a couple days ago stating that I had a few tollway violations on a truck I have had listed on my I-pass for over 5 years totaling 426.00.

I called the tollway today and they tell me they sent 2 other notices out. Finding out that they used the wrong address and I was lucky to receive one. They said because they sent 2 others out that I have to pay this fine. Even though my truck has been listed with ipass over 5 years and after 5 years this comes up?

Now they say that the truck was listed as a passenger vehicle so the toll way didn't read the plate, yet they knew who to send this bill too. After over 5 years of my truck being listed as a passengers vehicle they now say because of that the ipass didn't recognize the plate and I have to pay the penalty or they will have my license revoked?. Hummm,,, does someone else have my plate number?

I asked to speak to a supervisor and still I get no where. They are charging me for something they shouldn't be. Is this the new way to rip people off??
Then they say they will only charge me 46.00 at a reduced rate. How nice of them to rip me off with a smaller amount! I shouldn't have to pay this when I have a ipass.

Then a few days ago, I hit an enormous pot hole on the tollway, which broke a break line on my truck with only 34000 miles on it, costing me 300.00 to get fixed. Should I send Illinois tollway that bill? They want to charge me a penalty because they cant get my address right when I have it listed right on the ill tollway web site. Should I send them a bill for my car that was damaged with their pot holes?

It is your responsibility to have your plates registered correctly, I'll explain how the system works, When you go through a toll with an IPASS and the Ipass picks up it automatically tracks to the account in which the transponder is attached to, if your transponder doesn't catch (whether it was improperly mounted or not in the vehice) this is the part were the plates come into play, the system takes a picture of your plates and attempts to search all accounts for your plate, however your plate was not listed as a truck plate as it should so the computer red it plate as not having any IPASS account, at this point it is deemed unpaid for and the tollway requests the registration info for this plate, sounds like your registration was not updated with the Sec. of state, which is simple to do online at cyberdriveillinois dot com.  that is the ONLY mailing address they have on file to find you so logically they mailed the notice there, at this point your mail should either be forwarded or should have been returned as bad mail if that's the case they don't escalate your fines they place them on hold, however if it wasn't it's considered received.  Once you go past the 35 day window you are no longer allowed to pay for your tolls you know must pay a settlement, if the tollway didn't do this people would just never pay their tolls because there would be no repercussion if they didn't, you gotta have some kinda late fine.  Not paying will result in raising fines and suspension of your IPASS, DL, and Registration.  As for the pot hole you can charge the state for this, I believe that is through IDOT not the tollway however, but contact IDOT and request additional info.

You actually do have a right to present the entity in charge of the road with the bill for the pothole! Look into this!
