I was contacted this morning by a representative and my experience is a lot like everyone elses that I've read. The woman who called me originally was very nice, and pleasant to talk to. She went through her schpeel of how I'd been entered into a 25,000 dollar sweepstakes just for owning a Mastercard Debit card. Hm, the number was private and that set red flags flying through my mind, but through infinite patience and hope for people I went along with it. I was asked to complete a survey which answered questions about my marital status, my age group, and my address. I was told that I would be given a free diamond watch, all I needed to do was give my address.

Suddenly, I was being transferred to her supervisor, being asked to give her a good review because she would be graded, and the woman I was now on the phone with spoke so fast I could barely understand her. I didn't catch either name, wasn't given a contact phone number, but was treated fairly well, as if that makes the rip-off of 70 bucks monthly for magazines better. It took me much searching just to find the contact number, and thankfully found it through this site. The woman's supervisor was very pushy, very fast-talking, and full of ability to con, and that's exactly what she did. She asked if I wanted to register something else and thankfully I said no, because I was already in the middle of a sneaking suspicion that I'd been scammed. Too late, they had my debit card number, and 70 bucks. Conversation over, she said goodbye, hung up, and somehow left me on the line with another customer.

They recorded my voice to prove that I was giving full consent, but I wasn't strictly aware what I was giving consent to. I thought that I could cancel at anytime, but after reading many complaints, I've read that it is almost impossible.

The charge on my bank account shows up as International, so many people are confusing IMA with International Magazine Company, and they're getting massive complaints and can't help with anyone. My bank told me my charge was from VA Beach, so I began searching there, and found a report who's shpeel was the exact same that I'd heard this morning. I'm very frustrated, and very angry that this is legal. This is the kind of thing that needs to be put to a stop, because it encourages identity theft. I would not have been so stupid if it weren't nine in the morning, but it was, and that's why they did it.

I called the customer service line for IMA (1-866-269-2397) and requested a refund. They have their tricks, and I have mine. They recorded my voice consenting to the charges, so I recorded the customer service woman (with her knowledge) and our cancellation conversation. She tried many times to lower the monthly rate, but I was just not satisfied. I felt that they had used me and gained personal information, so I'm still angry. I had to repeat myself many times when asking for a refund, but finally she caved after I refused her lowest offer of 19.99. I informed her that the company would be hearing from an attorney if I didn't receive my refund within seven to ten days, and I will stick with that.

It is possible to beat scammers, and after this I will never give my credit card number out over the phone regardless of the time in the morning.

Best of luck to those of you still trying for cancellation.
