I went in for an interview in early July 2004 after reading a rather compelling ad in the newspaper..."no sales involved", "management trainees" were just two of the phrases used. I called the number listed and was told that the hours were Monday through Friday, 8-6, and optional Saturdays. Sounds good, right?

So I drove 25 minutes and sat in the lobby for about five minutes, before being shown in. Seated at the desk was an attractive young guy who introduced himself as Dave Levin, manager of Image Imports, Inc. He looked over my application (which requested no really personal information, just name/age/address/and hobbies) and after a five minute perusal and a question or two invited me back the next day for a "9-5 interview." I was told it was to show me what the business was all about and then to go from there as to whether it'd be mutually beneficial to proceed.

This 'interview' consisted of spending all day with two people I'd never met before, and walking all around a town (in my case it was North Reading MA) trying to sell toys to people. Kids laptops and squirtguns, to be specific. Oh, and don't forget the massive remote control cars. Add to that that it was raining, I was wearing cute shoes (because I'd had no idea I was going to be walking all day), and it was pretty miserable. But I was told nothing remotely negative- just that the opportunity was fabulous, advancement was rapid and the possibilities were endless. I was told that not everyone I'd seen out in the waiting area was going to be hired, just the "good eggs" with "the most positive attitudes". I had been a cheerleader. So I took the bait.

I get told to be at the office the next day by 7:15. Not exactly the 8am I was told, but okay. I walk in and there are about fifteen people, including the two girls I'd been with the day before, milling around talking (it looked like talking anyway- what they were really doing was getting their salespitch down so they could properly confuse people into buying their products). This girl walks over to me with her hand raised, high-five-style and introduces herself. A couple other people follow suit and then Dave Levin walks in and says "Hey guys?" EVERYONE responds, "Hey what?!" And this happens all the time. Creepy, but if it gets ya pumped...

You spend time in there and it gets to be routine. It's not Monday through Friday, 8-6, but Monday through Saturday, 6:30am-7:30pm. They lead you to believe that it's towards a greater goal though, so it's okay. Your "leader" is the person you went out with on your "Day of O", which means Day of Observation, when they see if you're naive enough to believe the pile of crap they throw at you. You go down to the Woburn office pretty much every Saturday and spend time, gas money, and energy down there doing the "Saturday Cruise" that was "invite only." Which really means, they want you to think you're special for begging to spend your Saturday hawking the same crap products you've been hawking all week.

Over the past three days, I made MAYBE $120, before gas which was $35. We have a website with a picture of a manager, but not our manager. I have no idea who it is. We weren't allowed to talk to people we saw waiting in the office, not even a hello, nor were we allowed to take the demos of our products out through the front lobby.

This is not to say that there aren't good people involved in this. I went on a road trip to another office, and it was full of absolutely amazing people that I grew rather attached to in the brief time I spent there. This is in no way a slam to the seperate leaders in the offices I visited, this is just a desperate attempt to alert them to the risk involved here. This entire business is built on lies - I found testimonials from people who say they were told to lie about having families, about how much they made, and about how much you can make in what's commonly referred to as "the business"...it's scary stuff. I just want people to know the truth.

ITS METRO - MSI NOW!!!! THEY CHANGE THE NAME TO KEEP GOING

Metro MSI:

My ex-Fiance' became employed with Metro MSI one year ago. She was promised a managers postion within 6 months of hire date. After 6 months came and went and no manager postion. She was then promised a managers position within 8 months. 8 Months came and went and still no manager position became available. Now it is comming up to one year and my fiance' puts in well over 80 hrs a week and brings home barely $350 a week on an avarage. We have had many, many arguements over this job and it eventually was the demise of our relationship. So many hours invested, while her manager recognizing that my fiance' was making alot of money for them. Management set goals for each individual, (Goals consist of making a certain amount of cash sales per day). when in actuality, its not the employees goal, but rather the manager who sets the goals in order to make money for management, leaving the one who labors broke...

It is a pyramid scam... You have to get a certain many employees to work under you for a certain period of time. This can also be seen in Amway type pyramid scams. It does not work because of the type of people the job attracts. Every now and then, Metro MSI gets a good person (like my ex-fiance') and this is how they make their money. Exploiting good intentions from good people in order to gain for themselves.

After my fiance' was employed with Metro-MSI, she had to ride with a manager to go from business to business trying to sell cheap junk that most dollar stores will never carry. While doing door to door, the managers car was broken into and my fiance' had her purse stolen... Metro-MSI didn't feel obligated to pay for this. I had to argue and fight to get only 50% back.

After approximately 8 months of being employed with Metro-MSI, my ex had to go with new applicants into the field to do sales. While she stopped to get gas, the two applicants went into her purse and stole all of her money, and the money that was collected from sales for the day. Metro-MSI made my ex, and I pay all of it back...

Please, do not be sucked in to this company... You will not progress forward in life. You can make way more money working at Mc Donalds with the hours they enforce at Metro-MSI. Metro-MSI pays commission only, so remember this when you try to sell somebody a piece of junk. They actually put you through alot of fake "positve self improvement" crap that actually blinds the employee into thinking this company cares about the employee, when in actuality all they care about is their own pockets getting fatter and fatter.

Ever seen requiem for a dream? Remember "JUICE BY SARA, JUICE BY SARA, GOOOOO SARA!!!!!" They actually say this and use "Juice" as some type of metaphore for positve affirmation... I think it is very cult like, and very scary that the woman I was with for 5 years was so easily manipulated into this crap....

Remember, if what they say is true, and thousands upon thousands of people who work for Metro-MSI are successful people, then don't you think everybody would be doing it?

I really really wish the news would run a warning to the public about companies like this to really get the word out there.... I wish I thought to look the company up before I wasted so much time there and ruined my relationships with my family and g/f....

I think the media really does need to be notified and I am willing to talk to any member of the press regarding this.... The lies and deception and empty promises need to stop and someone needs to be held accountable.

If anyone wants more info, please, reply and I'll tell you more.

I am the mother of a young man in Eugene, OR who in January was "so called given his own office" all the things that go with being incorporated. You know the "BuII PoooP" I watched my son work for a year for this company called Sagecal presents, was there top seller and had the name Platinum Trey Inc. put on his office. I watched him due the hiring and everything these other people said was true, they literally lied and then if the associates disagreed they were verbally assaulted. Over two months ago the Big Shot--Tim somebody sent a experienced manger to John's store and they took everything away from him. They called it retraining!!!! What this company has done to this son of mine is incorrigible, "Josh from California" wouldn't even let John take the things he bought for his office and they changed the name and put on a trial period of 12 weeks to see if he can earn his office back. I come from a very extensive background in conning people into doing things so I see the things they are doing but my son wants to be that millionaire by the time he is forty and feels he doesn't match to these idiots expectations. WHAT I SEE IS HE WAS MAKING MONEY IN A MARKET THAT ISN'T EASILY SOLD AND THEY STOLE IT FROM HIM!!! I send out a challenge to whomever runs the BIG OFFICE for the Northwest reply to this or personally contact me. You can reach me thru my son John in Eugene. He still works there and wants to succeed but we know that this business is set up for you to fail and the big whigs get rich.

I want to thank all who have written complaints against Image Imports of Woburn, MA. My son received a call in response to his submitting a resume. All excited because he had an immediate interview. He has such a passion for sports and thought this would be his "dream job"! My son also has a disability and this would have been a nightmare for him. I can't believe that a company can be so misleading and get away with it!

Thank you to all who have shared their horrible experiences with this company as it spared my son from wasting his time and possibly destroying his confidence in himself. I notified the company to tell them of this bad publicity and the response was, "well, you can read about Walmart at that site", I told the young lady, "I am reading about YOUR company and that is all I care about"!
Thank you to all for sharing your experiences! Maybe we should share this with Hank Phillipe Ryan of Channel 7 News and INTERVIEWER BEWARE!

Personally, I've only been with the above mentioned company a few days and I have to say the reports I've read above are almost entirely subjective. Most of this "Inside Information" seems to be repetitive, in that, you all say the system is a scam. To be honest, it's not. What it boils down to is: you get out of it what you put into it. It sounds to me like most of you couldn't handle what was required of you in this job and you united online to slam it a little in retaliation.

If you come into the job expecting to work very little, and not have to dedicate more than a few sparse braincells to it, you are out of luck. The job requires a great deal of dedication, a lot of hard work, and you have to be willing to abandon your pension for negativity. Once you settle into the groove, running around for 12-14 hours a day really isn't so bad.

I'd address all of your individual complaints in full if I thought it would make a difference. This job works for me, it works for all the people who work with me, and it makes me enough money to be comfortable. I'm sorry most of you couldn't stick around to see any of the positive benefits, and I hope that you're enjoying working at Toys 'R' Us.

I got a call from the receptionst in regards to my interview time. I asked if it was a " job where you follow an account exec. around all day". She says "oh no, we're not a company like that"! So the next day I show up @ Woburn and meet Dave levin. Nice guy and I told him I loved sports. Obviosouly I thought from the way the co. was marketed and w/ the Patriots helmet painted on the wall in the lobby. Bad move they use all that aginst you. The interview went decent and I was content, I didnt think it would be a job like I had applied for in the past, but it turned out to be just like it. I was told that I would get a call between 5-5:30 for a 2nd interview. I did get the call and they said I was one of the 8 out of 25 brought back.

I got there the next day and a lot of the same people showed up. Dave saw me and said"your in charge". He said it too kinda being cool and joking around, but when he came back out he said..."I thought you were in chrge"!? get everyone talking, laughing. I had a feeling he was a fast talker and I began to see it more. And I questioned why they brought back a guy who wasnt properly dressed for an interview. I got talking w/ some hot girls and was liking the possibilities. I told the receptionsist I was a personal fitness trainer and our talk shifted around that.

Dave then called me in last. He said" I saved the best for last". It didnt feed my ego, it made me think I was getting my ego stroked by him telling me what I wanted to hear. He got me in the room w/ another "leader and said "we liked you the most out of all the people" you can easily move up in this co. We know you liked sports, and we know you liked to travel from what you told me yesterday. But I never told him I liked to travel. Right then and there I was like "wait a minute, I smell a rat"! He said "We start everyone at entry level and promote in the co."

And from the way he talked to me, very fast and kinda like hurry up let's go. We get out to the car and we drove around Somerville . Another guy who just started drove to Somerville. We got lost, then finally on a street w/ no english people, we were selling coloring books, lanterns and random stuff. and going inot peoples place of businees. Even going in the back of the store and at the same time the guy I was w/ was intrusive in the restaurants. I told him The receptionsist said the interview would be between 9:30 to 11:30. The leader I was w/ was like "oh ...uh really"! I told him Its not for me! and that I wanted to go back to the office. They drove me back , and went right back to Somerville.

I also wanted to say that the leader lied to potential customers, and it was a huge turn off, very pushy and rude sales pitches. I got out as soon as I got in.

It's like you don't even know what co. you work for. Innovage, Image Imports, or one of those groups. Like you wonder what co. is going to be giving me my paycheck. Lies, lies lies, And right before I left I was told Joe Theisman signed on w/ there co. a hall of fame QB in the NFL. Ya right!

Tara, J...

I'm with you guys... I know Dave Levin too... and Mike Kriss... I dont know Dave that well... but I am sure he's as ruthless as Mike is.... They'll lie to you... they'll pick things off of your 'application' that you're into and all of a sudden, they're into it too... then they have morning meetings like the 'why are you doing this' meeting or the 'what was your worst job ever' meeting so they can use that info to keep you there to sling their lousy chineese imported crap thats from "sharper image" and the "nfl"

I worked in the woburn office and only saw these reports well after I finally smartened up enough to quit that s**t hole!

If you worked in the woburn office and you know people that were there a while back and you want to ask me more questions about it... im still in touch with a lot of them..... we'll help you avoid that miserable mon-sat 6:30am - 7:30 pm nightmare!
