I was recruited by someone with who my best friend works.  We were told that this was a professional development/career advancement convention.  This sounded great, as I am a teacher from California.  I knew immediately that we had been mislead.  People were harrassed and yelled at, and I saw that weak people were broken down IMMEDIATELY.  Everyone in attendance had crazy stories of abuse and neglect and constantly broke down.  Hans Berger and staff attacked these people, blaming them for all they had been through.  I was forced to to sit in front of a chair and pretend like it was someone from my family who hurt me and beat it!  I refused, insisting that no one from my family had ever hurt me enough to want to beat a chair.  I was threatened for "not going the distance."

On day one, staff made us turn in all prescribed medications, and we had to promise to not drink caffeine and alcohol during the training (I'm surprised we were not stripped-searched).  It was obvious from the beginning that the cult was trying to break people down, followed by mind control...We were given new names--most of which were disturbing, and then forced to wear name-tags.  We were kept in the training room until 12 AM some nights and then required to be back at "training" at 8 am the next morning.

In the end, it was my own choice to attend this cult convention in utah (I was mislead, but it WAS my choice).  WHAT I DID NOT CHOOSE IS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME WHEN I TOLD THEM THAT THIS WAS NOT FOR ME, AND THAT I WAS NOT COMING BACK. I WAS TRAPPED IN A VEHICLE WITH MY ''ANGEL'' AND ANOTHER CULT MEMBER.  THEY SCREAMED AT ME AND HARRASSED AND THREATENED MY LIFE.  I have never been so scared, but they did eventually take me to a hotel across town.  I was on the 6am flight out of there the following morning. I am very lucky that I am a strong-willed person who was smart enough to recognize that this is a scam and cult.  I have family members to work on the utah state legislature, which has been trying to disassemble this cult for years.  I filed a police report, and now a restraining order against the person who recruited me.  I have now a lawyer fighting my case.

I don't want anyone else to make the same mistake I did.  I only wish I had read one of these reports before attending this cult

I agree with the other comment. It is more likely that the marriage had problems before the training. Additionally, it is difficult to judge something until you have experienced it. I am a grad, and yes I too took some psychology classes. In fact, I took them all. I am always surprised when someone with a bachelors degree in psychology claims to be an expert. Nonetheless, I would encourage you to look deeper into yourself, as I am sure there were many challenges in your relationship. With over 30,000 graduates it is interesting that just a few people claim harm from the training. as of the time of this post, there is just nine complaints. If you know anything about research, that is not even clinically significant. The rate would be 99.997 % success! and just .0003% failure rate. Though the training is in no way a replacement for therapy, given that number it has a much higher success rate. I am smart enough to realize that others may not have gotten the result they sought, but still just nine complaints. It is also interesting how some of the complaints could not possible be true.

I am also surprised how people complain about the cost. I have attended many seminars over the years, and sent hundreds and even thousands. In the mental health industry people send thousands on therpy, sometimes hundreds per hour and sometimes never see results either. I guess that is okay, becase most people will just bill their insurance company so if it does not provide any result they are okay with it.

One final thought... Had you just completed the training, you would have seen something much different. If your marriage was important to you and your wife asked you to commit to 4 days to participate in something that was import to her, you may still be married today. Just my two cents

Very different perspective indeed

I have a much different perspective, perhaps more in alignment with some of the comments. Let me first start out by saying that I almost laughed with the complaint, as Impact training is certainly not a cult. I am very surprised when some posts their experience, and openly admits to have left early before the training was complete. Ever hear the expression "never judge a book by its cover". Sadly, it sounds like you did. You took part in a couple of hours of a multiway event; had you stayed, you would have had a much different experience.

Impact training is a personal growth seminar company. Like other simular companies ( and there are many out ther), the focus is to help people take a look at themselves, and exam some of the limiting belief that is created. Think you or others do not have these, guess again; we all do. I am a professional in the mental health industry, and I am also a graduate of the training. I participated in the seminar about 20 years ago, and it is one of the best I have evere participated in. the funny thing is that yea the staff will ask you to give up alcohol, caffeine, and nicotine for 4 days... Is that a bad thing? Seriously, anyone that put that stuff down for just 4 days may really have a problem. As for medications prescribed by a doctor, that is a fauls statement and adverse to their policy.

A couple of years ago, I had the opportunity to attend a Tony Robbins seminar. There were about 2,500 people there, all of whom paid $500 or more each for a four day seminar. On day one after 12 hours in the training room, we went outside to firewalk. Yep, walk on hot coals. leavibg after midnight, we were back at 9am and worked a 10-12 hour day. Hummmm, I wonder if Tony is a cult leader too??? Or perhaps it is possible that there is an effort to really do a lot of great work for people in just a few days. There is also an effort to be mindful of work schedules, starting in the afternoon for the first 2 days. In my experience, I have never seen someone complete the training who did not say it was one of the best experiences of their life. The only people I have ever heard complain are those that did not attend or dropped out the first night.

On a related note, I know dozens of grads who have better marriages, relationships with their family, who have started businesses, gotten new jobs, increased their income, quit unhealthy habits, and gone on to do some amazing things in life... Thanks in part to participating in Impact training. I myself was inspired to return to school, complete ungraded and graduate school all as a result of this training. Think of it more as a support group for success, as 10's of thousands of graduates over a 30 year span have experienced.

Let's see... Here are some discrepancies... Check them out for yourself, most the info is available on their website: staff do not threaten or intimidate. There is some confrontation, but handled very professionally, with staff who are very experienced. Participants are not forced to hand over meds or anything else; just asked to make a commitment to do something different. Again, it is a solid policy that any percription meds are to be used as ordered by a doctor. The time line is really off in the complaint; as posted on their website, it starts at 3PM the first 2 days, and 11am the next 2 days. The scheduled end time is 11:30, and they note it may run late. So if you left at midnight, that really does not sound late... not sure why you would state 8am start time??? Just not true.

I am sorry you were trapped in your car by your sponsor, but given that this training is 100% referral based! you were trapped by someone whom you must know. As for the Utah legislature action, in searching the state website there is no current or past action against. The police report may have happened I suppose, but seems strange you needed to get a restraining order against someone who you claim is a friend of a friend who live in another state???  I suppose if there were. Problem such as this, would have been easy to get support from the police as many are grads.

I doubt the validity of this post, as there are too many details that are easily disputed on the company website. Perhaps this is someone who did have a random problem and a very bizarre experience, but it is unlikely given the long and positive history of this company.

The Quest Training is an opportunity for the trainee to take a hard look at how the trainee shows up in life. My experience put me on the path to a less judgemental life of myself and those around me. What I realized is that I filled my life with drama and gossip. it always had to be someone elses fault--if business was bad I wasn't to blame, if my marriage wasn't working it was my wifes fault, if my relationships were not working, it was always them--never me! The training gave me an opportunity to take a look at me, how I did life. The result of the trainings, is a saved marriage (that was hours from its end) and communicative relationships without blame, expectation, comparison or judgement.

My experience of some, who left the training room were clearly not ready to take an honest look at themselves. They were more about blaming someone else for why its not working, which gives a clue to how some might show up writing a report about an organization who creates the perfect space for learning how to do life different. I get that some people will be put off by the methods, processes and style of the training, afterall it is hard at times to be the creator of all the junk we carry around. In short, unless a trainee is tired of how life is showing up for them I would counsel them to go see a feel good therapist who will collect a fee to hear the patient complain how everyone else is doing it to them. On the other hand, if the trainee is sick and tired of being sick and tired, then this is the perfect training for them. But be forewarned, if you are looking for the trainer to pass you over with all the buckets of crap you brought to the room, think again, you're gonna get the training you deserve. The trainer will be a committed stand to act in partnership with you to walk you through getting rid of all the history that has you stuck, which may or may not involve beating a chair, disclosing which mind altering drugs you are on or other medications which might indicate other issues that could expose others to possible violent episodes. If the trainer yells at a trainee, perhaps, its just another game the trainee plays in life making it someone else fault. I witnessed people saying that they aren't gonna do this and they're are gonna do that---So the trainer asks "why are you here then?" If change is not what you came here to claim, Get out! People have come to take on their lives--this is not some feel good class or seminar.

In the end, what will you give up to find a path of peace? Will you disclose your meds to find peace? Will you share your most guarded secrets to find peace? What will it take to finally let go of all the junk, history and pain? The Impact Training is the simplest way I have discovered to let go and just be who I am. If a loving relationship infused with honesty, love, commitment, honor, communication and self worth is what you are looking for, this is what I claimed for myself at Impact. I would have gladly paid double for the blessings in my life I received from my training.

I too went to Impact.  I had a different experience.  It was the best thing I ever did.  The chair beating was not to pretend your beating up a family member at all. It was to simply let it all out so that when you went on to the next phase of forgiving them you could leave all of it behind.   Everything that they do has a meaning and requires one to be able to look outside the box a little.  The going to your own funural was brilliant!!  And it worked for everyone I know that went through.  It was to see that if you are taking life for granted than your not living.  To awaken you to breath in the morning sunshine or soak up every moment possible with your kids.. To LIVE!!!  To be able to see things from different perspectives is a wonderful gift that I gained from my Impact experience and your perspective is yours, But to say that you want to save others from going is just absurd.  I know many who have completely transformed their lives after going.  I know at times some people get into the victim mode about the negatives as they are learning to see things differently because they are scared. I believe that is you right now.  What I can agree with you on  is the money thing and that there are a few flaws in the company.  But it's not all bad. It has changed the lives for many and transformed their future and what they have been able to accomplish in life. Not just financially but with real authentic love and apreciating the finer things in life.  If you havn't gotten to that point yet than I can see why your frustrated and I wish the best to you in finding what ever it is your looking for.  I wouldn't trade my experience for the World!! And I hope that every person in this world gets the chance to experience a self awareness training at some point or another and that they let go and learn to enjoy life.  :)
