On 3/14/08 I received a letter in the mail from this company informing me that "based on previous survey by our affiliate Consumer survey Specialist"..."You, are hereby selected to participate in a paid Consumer Research Program in your area of residence as a Mystery Shopper."

I came to Ripoff Report's site to find information about this company and I see that others have received similar letters; therefore, I felt obliged to report mine also.

My first indication that this was not legitimate were the many typos in the letter (incorrect grammar and sentence structure is a major pet peeve of mine - especially from so-called businesses or corporations).

My grammatically incorrect letter came with a check for $3,985.65 and an "assignment co-odinator [note the misspelling] SUSAN NORTON at 1-519-694-6146." This is a wireless number in London, Ontario, Canada. I called the number out of curiosity and got a voicemail. The letter also stated that I should "confirm the receipt of this check and fax all receipts and the Customer Service Evaluation Tool (CSET) form enclosed to 509-847-6436" which is a landline in Spokane, WA. The postmark was from Canada.

Thank you for the opportunity to share my concerns and hopefully help others from getting ripped off.

INC RESEARCH NOT INVOLVED WITH MYSTERY SHOPPING

#2Consumer Comment

Wed, August 17, 2011

INC Research is a legitimate company with its headquarters in Raleigh, NC.  They span the globe, with locations in 5-6 continents.  They perform clinical trials for drug companies.  They are in no way involved with mystery shopping scams out of Canada.  Obviously, as is so common, their name was borrowed.  I worked for a company that manufactured heavy equipment and scammers used OUR name as being involved in mystery shopping scams.  Don't fall for any mystery shopping scams.  If you get a check in the mail and are asked to wire money to an unknown person, its a scam.
