I want to warn everyone about INetCam. I purchased a product from CompUSA called iWatch Complete Internet-based Security & Monitoring System at a cost of $400.00. It comes with two cameras, an automatic camera switcher box, a video capture card and iVista software version 3.1 software (NOTE:: InetCam's latest version of this software is 4.0. With no upgrade options it will cost you $200 to purchase).. The idea behind the product is a very good one.

I've been looking for a computer based security system similar to this for sometime. But this system has many bugs and next to zero customer support. I ran into several problems setting up the system and if I were not an IS professional I probably would not have been able complete the setup.

After completing the setup I had to write a program to store viewable images after motion was detected, setup a RAMDISK to prevent hard drive burnout and setup several routines to make everything work.. The iVista program occasionally shuts down for no reason and services stopped sometimes do not restart unless you restart the program.

The program does not remember you settings from shutdown to startup. The cameras that come with the package works fine in daylight but are not low light cameras and motion detection is not reliable indoors. The software will work better with other brand web cams.

When running snapshots and motion detection on my 3com HomeConnect web cam the program used about 30% of my resources. When running the same configuration with one InetCam camera, all available resources were used up.

I would suggest you steer clear of InetCam.
