I purchased two Razr V3 cell phones on July 25,2005. My first problem was the cell # given was long distance from my home phone. I was to receive (4) $125.00 rebates totaling $500.00. Rebates were to be received in 10-12 weeks. Patiently waited the 180 days to send in all required information certified mail on Jan. 23,2006. They were received and signed for (stamped) on Jan. 27, 2006 by a Ron B. Horrocks. February 14, 2006 I emailed and was told they were unable to locate my rebates, to please fax all information again. I did this on February 20, 2006. Waited awhile and again, still not showing up. I called, "please wait longer", called again, indeed they have received them and they should show up as being received now. Finally March 3, 2006 rebate has been received and is currently being processed. Please allow 8-10 weeks for processing. April 13, 2006 rebate submission has been approved, you SHOULD receive your check withing the next 3 weeks. Well it has been well over that 3 weeks, the 8-10 weeks, the 10-12 weeks and any more time they should have needed to fullfill their obligation. It seems they tell lie upon lie. If they would have told me before purchase that it would take almost a year to get my rebates I probably would not have purchased them. Besides the above I have called numerous times and emailed a few other times, always get the same thing. Rebates have been apporved just wait some more.

I got the email address of Doreen Dennis from someone else report and emailed her on May 12, 2006. She responded with "All four of your rebates are processing without any errors. Please allow more time for the process to be completed. Once the process has completed, your checks will be mailed out." So here I sit, allowing more time and waiting! I did file a report with the FTC.gov as everyone else should to. This is an unacceptable business practice.If they get enough complaints they will investigate. If inphonics has a backlog of rebates, maybe they need to hire more help to take care of business. I for one will spread the word not to purchase anything from them unless you have money to tie up for at least a year, if not forever because as of May 19,2006 I still have not seen any rebates.

Finally, I have received all of my rebates. Tomorrow, 7/25/06 marks 1 year from my order date. I received $250.00 on May 25,06 & $250.00 on July 24,06. This has been the longest drawn out rebate process I have ever had to do. To the thousands of others still waiting, I wish you the best of luck, hang in there.

Cognigen responds to BBB complaint

The following is a response I received from the BBB for my complaint against Cognigen Cellular, which is the company that I purchased my phones from over the internet. They are putting the problem in InPhonics hands. In my opinion it is their problem too. I never heard the name InPhonics until checking on my rebates at rebatestatus.com. As of today July 5, 2006 I have only received half my rebates. For the other 2 rebates of $125.00 they tell me they were approved over a month ago but I still don't have my checks!

Response for BBB for Alaska, Oregon, and Western Washington. I filed here because Washington is the address I found for Cognigen Cellular.

"Cognigen Networks, Inc does not offer rebates. Rebates for cellular are often offered by the carrier or shipping entity. In this case it sounds like they are asking about a rebate offered by Inphonic. If the customer would like to file a complaint against that company I am providing the contact information below. I have listed the corporate address and two contacts at the corporate office.

I finally received 2 of my 4 rebates on May 30, 2006. Their website says the other 2 should be mailed sometime in July!!!.

On May 30, 2006, I received 2 of my $125.00 rebate checks. The last inquiry of my rebates at CellPhoneRebates.com says I should expect the other 2 rebates to be mailed sometime in July. !!!! I do expect to receive my checks but this is still a very unacceptabel business practice. Taking up to 25 weeks or longer to receive a rebate that clearly states on their forms that you will receive in 10-12 weeks is not right and needs to be corrected.

I too have been victimized by this company. I have been dealing with Doreen Dennis (if that is her real name)for some time now - she talks a big game but she will never ever offer you a real soution with results!

I have notified the Attorney Generals of New York and Washington DC, the BBB's in both cities, filed complaints with the Federal Trade Commission, Consumers Affairs Office, and continue to call daily and email daily with Inphonics customer service and the rebate processing center.

To date, I am finally beginning to get some responses from these agencies who are looking into this company. I would encourage not to give up and do all that you can to bring these people (especially Doreen Dennis) to justice.

Like you, I have never experienced such a total disregard for customers as Inphonic has done. They do not want to keep their promise to rebate you!

Here are some numbers that might help:

Ricahrd Calder is President and COO of Inphonic -I am sure he lives in the Washignton DC or Reston Virginia area - maybe we can locate his home number and give him a call. There is one that lives in Reston but I am not sure if it is him.
