I recently switched to SBC because they promised me my bill would only be 33.00. When I received a larger bill, I started looking for the exra charges thus finding the Nationwide VM charge of $17.23 for Nationwide Voice Mail services not ordered. Called SBC and they said they could not take it off the bill and that I should call Nationwide Voicemail to have them remove the charge.

I called Nationwide Voicemail and after holding for ten minutes I got to speak to someone. They informed me that I had signed up for their services two months ago when I was on the internet through RecipeRewards.com through some sort of coupon add for 1000 coupons to be sent to my house. They said I filled out a two page sign up sheet for their services and proceeded to read to me my name, address, email address, I.P. address and my mother's maiden name. Since I hardly ever use coupons and do not want to receive any more junk mail, I immediately suspected fraud.

I told them I did not sign up for their services or authorize this charge and certainly would not give out my mother's maiden name on line and would not being paying for this service and wanted it cancelled immediately. Why would I sign up for Nationwide VM when I already have voicemail through SBC? They continued to tell me that someone from my house had signed up for this service through my email. I told them I was going to report them to the P.U.C.O for obtaining my information fradulently and charging me for something I did not authorize. They told me to go ahead as they have my I.P. address and can prove that I ordered these services. They are very bold about what they are doing and trying to tell you what you did on your own computer.

They did cancel supposedly (will find out on next bill) and I got SBC to remove from my bill and put a block on my bill so no other outside services can be billed to my phone. Hope this is all I have to deal with for now. Have read many other complaints about this same scam. I must say this is a real eye opener! What other information do they have?
