I used Intelius to locate someone's phone number, and I was charged 7.95. I expected this charge.

However, a day later, I noticed a charge for 19.95 on my checking account. The debit was from Privacy Matters, an online identity protection website.

I thought this was strange because I never signed up for this program. I never clicked "yes" on any offers with Intelius, and I never actually agreed to join Privacy Matters.

I checked the fine print on Intelius.com and never saw anything about a trial offer for Privacy Matters. In short, I had been scammed.

I called up Privacy Matters and canceled my membership that I never even asked for.

I had to call them back another time to get a refund. In total, it took about 3 days to get back my 20.00 that was essentially stolen from my bank account.

Intelius isn't worth the money. They sell your information to other companies as well. They are scammers.
