Complaint Review: Intent Careers

I received an email from an unknown company/Web site calling itself IntentCareers.com, offering me a job that I did not apply for. They said they reviewed my resume online and wanted me to apply for a clerical assistant job that paid very high. This was the first red flag.

I did some online research and it turns out someone registered several variations of the domain name IntentCareers.com in July 2009. If this were a reputable company, they wouldn't have just now created a Web site, and created several versions.

They also only have a P.O. Box listed as a contact address. Another red flag.

The email had a couple of links to click to "learn more about the position and apply" and to "unsubscribe." I suspect this is a phishing scam.

Also, the link to learn more about the position started with http...no "s." The "s" tells you it's a secured site. They are probably looking for your email address, phone number and other private information about you to further scam you.

I've been looking for jobs the past few weeks and have registered on job boards in order to access their job postings; I probably stumbled across a bad one and this is how they initially got my e-mail.

When looking for jobs, remember:

--If someone offers you a job you didn't apply for, something's wrong.

--If someone offers you a lot of money for a normally low-paying job, something's wrong.

--If they can't verify where they found your resume, something's wrong.

--If there are various links in an unsolicited e-mail to you, something's wrong.

--If a company only has a P.O Box listed as their contact address, that's kind of shady and something may be wrong. Most of the time, real companies have physical addresses where customers and clients visit.
