I recieve several letters through snail mail (post office) that claim i have won some sort of prize sweepstake money.  These letters prey upon the elderly among others.  They look very official, and the way they are written is impressive.  I give them that.  If you ever get one of these letters, one sure fire way to know it is a scam is to see if they are charging any kind of fee to recieve the prize money.  These fees usually range from $5 to $20 and are called diffrent things such as "office attendant reporting fees, Nominal research and compilliation fee, registration fees or processing fees and the list goes on.  The most honest being "report fee"  Because this is what they are selling....  It is a printed report of information concerning sweepstakes.  They word these letters in such a way it is easy to think this fee is necessary to recieve the winnings.   BUT YOU HAVE NOT WON. You are just 'guarenteed,' 'verified' and 'confirmed' elidgeable to win.

The companys i listed above are all different organazations. They all issue tricky worded letters designed to trick the reader into  thinking they've won some prize money and all that is needed to recieve said money is.......you guessed it some kind of fee!

JUST REMEMBER NO MATTER HOW THE LETTER IS WORDED, IF A FEE IS REQUIRED FOR ANY REASON, TO RECIEVE THE PRIZE MONEY,  THEN IT IS A SCAM PERIOD!!!

Upon receiving this official-looking letter in the mail, my suspicion kicked in and I automatically assumed it to be a scam. Luckily, with help from my friend 'the internet', I was able to uncover the truth. This is definitely what it sounds like, an operation designed to rip you off, no matter how small the cost.

I must say, though, this was one of the better attempts that I've seen. Everything about the letter seems authentic, that is... except when you look at the written signature. The 'employee' that wrote it was either ill or illiterate as it's basically just a bunch of squiggly circles above a line. It doesn't even look like they tried to forge a name, but I guess that would help in the process of masking their responsibilities.

At any rate, I would like to thank the person who created this report. I would have otherwise spent the rest of the day pondering my decision.

OTHER SWEEPSTAKES WITH FEES.....

I will update this report often with other companies that send misleading mail indicating a prize has been won if you respond with a fee. Most of these companies dont have a name mentioned in the prize letter so i always look to whom they want the "fee check" made out to, and that is the name i will post here. I also look at the name on the return envelope because the company name is usually there also.  I will add spaces between the seperate companies, and i will update as i continue to recieve these deceptive letters.  Here are the latest 3...

N.A.A.C. Administrative Services.....money promised is 19000000.00 and the 'report fee' is 19.99

D. R. D. Main office - Payments director, this is the name they want the 19.99 'Payment data release fee'  made out to.  The prize money is 1,400,000.00.  Return address on envelope is  a p.o. box from East Meadow, NY

Return address on envelope is Referral Clerk at a p.o. box in Lynbrook, NY.  Prize money is 1,560,000.00.  The 'Referral to amount of award fee' is 20.00.  Check should be made out to 'Report Main Ofc'
