I purchased a used 2010 Ford Flex from Hacketstown Hyundai on October 1 2012.  I don't usually purchase extended warranties, but decided to do so as the car had 33,000 miles on it.  The warranty was an extended warranty to 100,000 miles. The dealer sold it to me with bad brakes which I had to replace the first 2 weeks I owned the car.  They refused to pay the $184.00 for the repair.

Generally, the car has run very good and I have had no problems.  However, at approximately 99,550 miles I noticed a water and oil leak.  I called Interstate and they told me I could take it to any licensed mechanic and they would open up a claim.  I took it to a local mechanic I have used for years.  They are very professional and reasonably priced.  They diagnosed the problem as damage inside the engine and suggested a new engine be installed.

Interstate sent their "licensed mechanic" out to look at it.  He determined that it only needed a new plug.  They authorized $1362.00 for this repair.  The mechanic I used removed the plug and saw sludge and metal coming out of the hole.  He still says it needs a new engine.

Interstate now says that I...the customer.... should authorize and pay for a complete teardown of the engine ...$1500.00 so that Interstate will know exactly what caused the problem.  Then they will decide "if" they are going to pay for the new engine installation.

They are an unscrupulous business, trying any and every way they can not to pay this claim. I have called them several times and each time I have to stay on hold while they review their notes.  Each of them interpret the notes as they see fit.  One told me the mechanic they sent out came only to look at the leaking plug which the shop called in.  Their mechanic does not diagnose the problem...he only sends them pictures.  They are deceitful...the other claim agent says no...it was called in as an engine repair from day one.  Yes, the person they sent is a licensed mechanic and he does diagnose the problem.

As far as Hacketstown Hyundai, I group them in the same category for selling this product to their unsuspecting customers.

They are both greedy and untruthful...just trying to make more money on the sale of a car.   DO NOT BUY FROM HACKETSTOWN HYUNDAI  AND NEVER BUY AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM INTERSTATE....SAVE YUR MONEY FOR YOUR OWN REPAIRS...BECAUSE YOU ARE THE ONE WHO IS GOING TO PAY!
