over a year and a half ago I purchesed one of Intex corps above ground pools. The store I bought it from was Target in Phoenix, AZ. I noticed on the box the pool came in that it said do not return to store. It had a phone number and email address on the box that was it. I read the instructions very carefully. For the first 3 months the pool started to have problems already, 1-The liner ripped right by the intake and outake water valves. 2- The cover to the pool ripped in half when a wind came by. 3- The pump/filter was too small for the pool. 4- The pump and filter did not pick up any dirt that was on the pool floor. No where in the directions did it say that the pump will not pick up dust, sand or sediments that are on the floor. I called up to Intex corp and spoke with one of their reps. They told me that the pump will not pick up the dust, sand or sediments from the floor the pump is to keep the water from getting stagnet, and we had to go out and by a real pump and filter to do that job. I asked them why, they told me that the pump does not do that it is only to suck into the basket the leaves and big articles of dirt. Not dust or sediment. I told them that the pump was also too small for the size of the pool and they said that I was right and sent me a new pump. I also had to send them a picture of the damaged liner and the cover. Now this took only 3 months of owning the pool. I finally got the new liner and cover with a little bit of a hassle from the company itself. I started to see that dirt was laying on the floor of the pool and I tried to vacum it up, but to my shock I saw the same dirt that I just vacumed up coming back out from the from where the water was coming back into the pool from. Only now it was even more dirty with also a film over the top of the water. I called up Intex corp and told them of the problem and in certain words they told me I was out of luck. Bascially too bad for me and that was all they had to say. I got ripped off for over $500 dollars not including having to buy more parts for this pool which started to break after a while. I drained my pool over 3 times just to clean out the dirt from the floor. It got so bad the water turned green filled with algee. I finally got the pool liner cleaned out and again filled it with water. I also found out that the ladder that came with the pool was being recalled due to being unsafe to climb up on. I filled a report with the bbb of California and after 4 months got a reply back basiclly saying that the Intex corp had over 800 complaints filled against them from pool leaking to pump burning out after the warrenty was no good. They gave Intex Corp an F as far as their ratings go for a company. Also I saw a very shocking piece of info also that the bbb found out and that was the Intex Corp does not have a license to sell pools or pool accessaries to the public but they are still in business ripping off the public. I filled a report with the FTC about what I had found out and I still have not heard back from the FTC reagarding this matter. I thought it was against the law to sell products like pools where if people don't watch can get hurt sick or even die in them. I want to let the Federal government and any affiliates know what is going on right under their eyes. I want to know what is the FTC going to do about Intex Corp and all of the complaints that were filed with the bbb and sent on to Intex Corp. Now Intex has rebutted by saying they never said that the pump and filter would filter out the dust, sand or sediments from the floor. So the public like myself is out of luck and lost over $500 or even more by buying this piece of crap pool from Intex Corp. If anything I think they aught to be shut down and fined heavily or brought up on charges of falsely representing themselves as a leader in the pool field. Wow what a racket. If you do not do anything to this company then they will be allowed to sell anything to anybody and not have to back up their products. Sought of like going to a car dealer and getting ripped off. If any action is to be taken I would like to know and be there to give my statement. I would like to hear back soon and not be left hanging.
Thank You

Sincerely Yours

Intex Pools

I also have the 18' pool, and have enjoyed it for 4 years now.

I didn't expect that pump would ever pick up stuff from the bottom.

Yuo need to vacuum to get that stuff out.

The hose vacuum that comes with the pool though is useless.

Buy a hose to hook onto the filter line, works well for me.

My only complaint is that the motor on the pump fails as soon as the warranty does. Gets really noisy, then dies.

I'm on my second pump now, and that just died today.

I'll never buy another Intex pump, but try to find something else that will last.

You would think that they could at least buy good electric motors on these.

Motors these days should last years.

One other thing, DO NOT buy Intex filters for your pumps. There are now ones that are MADE in the USA, that last all summer, just rinse them out and go. Cost only two bucks more. The ones from Intex only last two weeks if your lucky.

My Pool Was Great

We bought our first Intex 15' round Frame pool in 2000 and used it for three years without a single problem. Unfortunately, the mice got into the shed where I stored if over the winter and ate through much of the pool. We went straight back to Walmart and bought the 18' round Frame pool and used that for 4 years before giving it away to another family. I'm looking for the 24foot round one now but I'm not having much luck finding it in the store.

Our only problems were leaks in the filter hoses after about two years, which was expected as plastic breaks down from chlorine. We never expected the filter to vacuum up the dirt, dead skin, and leaves off the bottom so we vacuumed it regularly with the hose/vacuum provided. This year we plan to find a second-hand regular (larger) pool filter, which we will be able to expect better performance from... but the bottom line is that for the price, the pools served our family exceptionally well. We got 7 years of fun for a total price of $800.00... I'll take that deal anyday.

Intex pool ripoff Response

Ok first off to gilbert of arizona i also have an Intex pool payed $300 for it and Absolutely love it. Filter works fine but for small particles such as dust dirt etc. they sell a vacuum for the pool floor. Also the only way the lining is going to rip is if you dont follow the directions i.e. leaving debree such as rocks or sharb objects under the liner. The algae is because you apparently didnt have enough or any algae solution in the pool. People buy these pools and expect them to take care of themselves but that not the way it works. If intex was doing anything illegal they would no longer be selling pools because lawsuits would ensue not to mention the bbb would not disclose as much information as you claim if an investigation of the company is still underway. My pool is fabulous and would recommend it to anyone looking for summer fun on a budget.
