I signed and authorized IRA Toyota to do a $64.00 work order but was forced to pay $690.62 before I can get my car back. When I brought my car in I specifically said only oil and inspection sticker.  I asked how long it would take and the manager said about an hour.  I just had the snow tires changed out and the car was checked.  Please dont do anything else.  I have a regular mechanic.  When I signed the work order I only looked for the oil change and inspection.  They omitted the inspection and had to hand written it in.  They also added the 26 point inspection which I specifically asked them not to do.

After an hour of waiting, I asked and was told that they are working on it already.  Another half an hour later, another gentleman, Alfredo Lopes came out to say that he needs to show me my car.  I followed him and he said my water pump leaked and he shows me that there are pink anti-freezes all over.  I said I just check the oil and there was no problem.  Now, the hose for the water pump is all over the car.  He said I also need to replace the filters and they put these two soaked with black dirty oil, funny looking twisted filters on top of the engine.  There is no way those filter could come from my car.  I knew that the air filters was just checked and it was fine.  This is a 2009 car.

I am now stuck because they said that its dangerous for me to drive the car because of the water pump.  They kept saying that they never see water pump problem on a Corolla, they normally see on a Camry never on a Corolla.  I called my boyfriend.  He spoke to the manager and authorized the water pump and nothing else.

Next day when I came back I was charged as follow:

I obtained the above information from IRAs accounting statement and my invoice.

I called the police because they said that they will hold my car if I dont pay.  The officer came and said that by state-law, I have to pay and take them to civil court.  Never let the service department take your car without opening the hood up and take a picture of it first in front of them.

We requested all the paper work and it took another hour because they kept only give us partial copy and didnt give me the work order for $690.62 that I never signed.  I only signed and authorized them to do the oil change and Mass state inspection for $64.00.  It took about an hour and the officer finally had to count page by page before we would get all the documents.  They were either passing us blank pages or duplicate instead of the correct paper work.  The officer finally had to take the folder and compare one for one.

The total oil change and Mass state inspection that I had to pay was $72.03 not $64.00 as agreed.

I brought the car to Amherst Auto Work in Amherst NH, my regular mechanic.  They can only check the break because thats the only thing Ira Toyota didnt do.  Amherst Auto Work mechanic said that I have at least 18,000 miles left on my brake before it needs to be replaced contrary to what Ira Toyota said.

The oil is also MUCH MUCH darker and thicker than the normal synthetic oil that I checked regularly.  This is regular oil not the synthetic oil that I requested and paid for.

My mechanic also looked up the water pump problem for 2009 Toyota Corolla and it a known problem with Toyota T-SB-0362-09.  Toyotas cost for the water-pump includes Gasket was $110.86 plus 1.1 hr for labor.  Ira Toyota charged me $155.26 for parts and $200 for labor for a total of $355.26.  Alfredo Lopes kept repeating that he had never seen this problem on a Corolla only on the Camry.

My question to Toyota is Is most of the Water Pump problem reported by IRA Toyota because Toyota is paying for replacement for cars with 60,000 miles or less.  I searched the internet and it looks like there are frequent complaints with people going to IRA Toyota in Manchester, NH and other places for water pump problems which they only seem to have when they brought their car to IRA.  I searched online and there are other people complaint about Ira Toyota and suspicious water pump problem.

The bottom line is I signed and authorized a $64.00 work order and ended up paying $690.62 before I can get my car back.    They said that when I gave them the coupon that I have from West Borough Toyota I pointed out that they will give me up to $100 off for services and they said they would match it.  Their point later was that showing them the coupons, they took it as I gave them permission to do up to $700.00 worth of work on my car.

IRA Toyota had used unfair business practice and deceptive tricks to force me to pay $690.62 for services which I didnt need from the $64.00 work order contract that I signed because they made up problems which did not existed in my car.
