May 13, 2010: Paid Rick Tauscher, owner of Island Dream Homes/IDH Roofing a total of $15,820 for a roof on our home. The final check for $9,900 Rick had me make out a check to him personally (is he trying to hide $$$)?!

May 14, 2010: We received a notice from the roof supplier (GulfEagle) informing us about the Florida Lien Law. Rick was advised of this notice and our concern....he stated that he would issue a LIEN RELEASE and ASSURED us that the bill would be paid.

August 9, 2010: We received a notice from GulfEagle Supply Co. that Rick Tauscher, owner of Island Dream Homes,  DID NOT pay for the roofing supplies ordered for our home! Consequently, GulfEagle placed a lien on our home for $5,123.14!!!

August 10, 2010:  I spoke Rick, he gave me a sob story about trying to get the money to pay GulfEagle (where did my $$$ go)? He would call me by week's end. I have NOT heard from him since! I have called him daily for the last month day and night and he will not return my calls (COWARD). We have sought legal help only to find out that we can't afford that either! We live on a fixed income. Small Claims Court costs $300 to file with no guarantee to be paid when we win. I hope Rick is proud of himself for RIPPING of two unsupecting new comers who just retired to Florida! Why isn't there a law that protects us!

Here is a link to an article about the owner of IDH ripping off an 81 year old woman for $132,000 and was arrested and convicted of it. How this man is allowed to run/own any business has to be illegal. Thank god for forums like this, citizens of Volusia county need to communicate with each other so no one else gets scammed. What kind of person would do this to an 81 year old woman. Share the link if you like:

#4REBUTTAL Owner of company

Tue, April 12, 2011

We are very embarresed with this situation.  Do to a billing error and other companies not paying for their services rendered, we were temporarily put in a position where of financial strain.  We spoke to the supplier in this case and worked out a complete settlement with them.

We were completely embarressed by this happening but we had a total of over $120,000 of unpaid invoices in a six month period of time.  We have communicated with the owners and have expressed not only our concern but our embarassement with this situation.

Most of the materials were paid before hand and we had a remaining balance of around $5,000 still outstanding on thier bill.  When we spoke to Gulf Eagle supply they were very helpful in the settlement of this issue.

I understand how upsetting this can be for anyone and their was no malice in regards to wanting this to happen to anyone.  We have done over 3,000 roofs in the last 6 years and have never had an issue like this before.  I understand that it would make me just as mad if not even more agitated.

And with knowing that, after the supplier was completely paid, we sent out a letter of apology and a gift certificate to the "Chart House" for the owners to go and have dinner on us as a way to let them know how bad we felt about this situation and that we really did care.

Everyone knows how difficult business can be, and in the shape the economy was in last year, some companies are lucky to be still around.

We had to pretty much start all over with everything while we waited for payments from consumers and businesses that never arrived.  We in turn had to file lawsuits to protect ourselves from some of the people who wouldn't pay us.

It's all a trickle down effect when other people and or businesses down pay their bills, it effects everyone.

And, now with this internet site that won't allow any retraction of an unsatisfied customer, we are contstantly battling negative publicity due to comments like these.

We have more than 25 times the amount of super satisfied clients as compared to the 3 to 5 clients that were unhappy.  I can count on my hands how many customers we have that we probaly can not use as a reference.  And I don't believe that the person who wrote this report is one of them.

I believe that if asked about the quality of work and how we completed the project, they would still to this day recommend us.

The problem we have is because this site is a negative force, people see the negative nature of this site and automatically fix in their mind a preconceived notion of the business.  I think in the last 3-4 months this site has cost my company more than 10 jobs

Thats 10 projects that the employees of this office did not make any money to support their families on.  When work is slow, the office is slow.  Sites like this need to be a little more forth coming with the people who want to complain about matters like this.

There is always the Better Business Bureau.  This is a company that has been around for ages and will let the consumer know how companies handles the pitfalls of life.  Trust me when I say this, that there is not a company I know from IBM to the local market, that makes the consumers happy every day.  However, the BBB will give an accurate description on how that company handles any mishaps that happen.  And will grade them accordingly.  And in the end will keep and accurate account of everything that has happened without prejudice

Granted, we have made mistakes and we have paid for them.  But to give people this forum where once they are mad they can say anything they want without a chance to remove later when the issues has been cleared up is in my words, wrong.  I can understand being upset, but this forum will be out there on the internet under this name forever.  Not just a week or a month, but forever.  When my kids grow older and search my name or my company and see something like this, what do I tell them

Better yet, what if I am no longer around to explain something like this.  Makes you think about the usefullness of something like this

If anything like this was even slightly to be un-corrected, there would be a host of issues that follow from lawyers, to arrest warrants and possibly jail for anyone that would do anything like this on purpose

As I said earlier, this whole issue happened in the most unfortunate manner.  We worked hard, came up with all of the outstanding payments and settled the matter.  Now all we can do is sit back and watch the hardwork we have preformed over the past 8 years go up in smoke.

No one takes in account the amount of time you donate to childrens sports, how you raise money with your family for every illness that comes up for other people.  No one is around when you spend close to $2,000 a year to feed the hungry on Canal Street and work with the family all day to do so.  Where was this site when last year, one of my 25 year old salesman lost his 2 year old daughter in the middle of the night?  The family had no medical insurance and or no life insurance. We worked together with my other business to raise enough money to take care of all of the funeral arrangements for his daughter.  Where was this site when his Father wept when we handed him the donations.  All this and my salesman had only worked here for less than 4 months at that time.

In closing, I apologize for any and all inconvience that my company has placed on this consumer.  We will always stand behind our products and our services.  We take every complaint serious and we give all of ourselves to every customer that chooses us.
