Complaint Review: ITW / SpaceBag

I ordered a 7 pack of SpaceBags on 12-7-2005.[Order#2005120712260254].

I thought this would be a very good experience as the online order process was smooth and efficient and I recieved my order in about 10 days.

After the Christmas holiday, I decided to open the package and put these things to use. I had already closed a storage unit and piled up a bunch of blankets, etc.. ready to store. I have very limited space, and thought these would surely solve my problem.

Was I ever wrong!!

The bags are VERY lightwieght and tear easily. The "ziplock" locking feature of the bag is almost impossibe to seal [despite the advertising claims> "Seal the zipper easily with the Sure Zip slider. Our patented closure system ensures an airtight seal for ultimate protection".

The ziplock feature resembles that of a generic brand ziplock bag. It is almost impossible to seal on the first attempt. The grooves in the ziplock are very small and delicate. They cross very easily. The plastic zipper they provide fits poorly and if you do not have it perfectly centered, or if you move it a little too fast, it will slice the bag.

Then the air hose adapter for the filler port has some cheesy loose fitting cap on it that allows air to leak out.

I have made at least 3 attempts to properly seal these bags and at lease half of them have leaked out and fluffed back up overnight! I even resorted to putting DUCT TAPE over the ziplock and the filler port and they STILL won't seal!!

If you are elderly, or have poor vision or poor finger dexterity DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT ORDERING these things!

I will keep you posted. I sent a nice polite letter describing my experience to SpaceBag customer service by email. I will see if they respond, and I will post the response here.

We'll see how reputable the ITW SpaceBag Co is.
