Ivory White Used deceptive 'free sample' offer and charged my credit card objectionally high charges unbeknown to me. Boulder Colorado
A free sample offer was advertised on internet for paying only $4+ dollars S&H. On 1/26/08, I received a box with two product boxes inside. One was "sample" and other was a larger supply. Boxes were about same size and weight. I cancelled (or thought I did), as was the 'deal' as I understood it.
On 3/12/08, I received another box with two product boxes (one was 'maintenance' and the other was 'family and friends'. Having thought that I cancelled the order earlier, I called 800 # and gave a nine digit cancellation number which I apparently noted somehow wrong. Their cancellation numbers are 6 digits, I was informed.
So, I cancelled order at that time. I was told to ship back the boxes unopened and I would be charged a 25% restocking fee (of nearly $80)!
I cancelled and will ship back the order. I am very unhappy about all this, but attribute it somewhat to DUMBNESS on my part.
The clincher came when I googled Ivory White right after cancelling and that is when I found out that I missed the first part of the scam, because I haven't seen my credit card statement yet. When the "free sample" arrived, and the box contained 2 boxes, I had no idea that this was going to be an $80.00 charge! This is insane! Was I ever taken or what? I hope a class action develops against this kind of underhanded business practice.
