We arranged to rent an apartment in New York City through VacationHomeRentals.com. The owner requested a down payment paid through Pay Pal which we did. She told us she would contact us a few days before we arrived in NYC but we did not hear from her.
We emailed our flight information to her and told her when we would arrive. When we got to the apartment there were other people staying there. We called the number that the owner gave us and there was no response. We left a message and still no one returned our call. Eventually we left to find a hotel.

I contacted the owner by email when we returned home and she has not responded. She kept our $360 deposit however.
We received an email from VacationHomeRentals.com asking us to rate our stay, which I did. However, since I gave the owner a poor rating, the review has not been posted. I sent an email to the company asking them if they only posted favorable ratings, and they did not respond.
I know now that the owner rents several apartments in NYC using different rental companies. If you do a Google search you will find them and other instances of negative feedback.
