J&W Aspalt Paving came to our door on 8/26/10 claiming they had "left over" asphalt from a job they had just finished down the street. They said that they could give us a substantial discounton our driveway. To get to the point they paved our driveway that day. We signed a contract for a 3 year warranty. We have problems with the work. We want corrected, holes already exposing our existing driveway due to the fact that the asphalt is paper thin in many areas. We were told the asphalt would be at least 2 1/2" thick. It is NOT. There are also other issues such as weedsthat started popping up through the asphalt within less than a week after it was layed, rises and dips that need corrected and issues where it meets the concrete to the garage and so on.Through numerous phones calls we got theowner, Mr. Western to come to our home and speak with us about a week after the job was done. We explained to him our concerns and he stated that he would return in a few days with his partner to see what they could do to rectify the issues. We have not seen or heard from him since. I called the number on the business card at least 50 times and once in a while I would get to speak to a worker but never Mr. Western,I was always told he was unavailable but that he would return my phone call, he NEVER did. In talking to the person who would answer the phone once in a while, I found out that there was never a partner. I came to the conclusion, that was just a line Mr. Western fed us to try and appease us. Then after a few months of calling I was informed that the reason Mr. Western was not returning my calls was because his dad was in the hospital dieing. I didn't buy that either and told the person on the phonethat, that was not my concern. In this time line, by now we are into late Sept. early Oct and I continued to call but was always fed a line of CRAP. I was eventually told that Mr. Western also now has a sister in Texas who was in the hospital with a brain tumor and that I should have some compassion for him....NOT!..To end this, by early Nov. the phone number has been disconnected and we never did hear or see from J&W Asphalt Paving again. I reported them to my local BBB and Attorney Generals office but neither did anything for us. Our next step is, small claims court. So we will see what happens. I just hope that if anyone reads this they do NOT fall for the scam of...."We have LEFTOVER material from a job down the street"......

We had the same company come to our house about two weeks before you last summer. We fell for their story as well. We are actively looking for Joe Western at the moment, if you have gotten any other info on him or his "company" we would love to share/exchange info w/ you. Our driveway has bubbles and weeds popping through as well, and is not laid porperly, and our contract aslo states the same 3 year warranty. We cannot come up with much info about Joe Western, but i'm sure he is still out there scamming other people in the area w/ a different company name this year! two summers ago I was approached, one afternoon, by a company w/ the same story and we declined their services, but this past summer we gave in and thought we got the deal of the century. we were OBVIOUSLY mistaken!! And we live out in chesterland, so this man must have been making his way around town (we were driving down 306, in s. russell and saw a sign in someones yard). any info you have, or what next steps we can take to help get this guy would be great! We hate the thought of having to pay another company to get this fixed (and sealcoated for that matter, which they also said they would come back this summer to do for free).

I did a web reverse lookup on the address you listed for J&W. It's for a UPS Store in Mentor. In other words this scammer used a mail drop. The suite # wasa rentedmailbox in the store. You MAY be able to get the UPS Store to reveal the guys full info since he was using their facility as a scammer tool.

You need to become a major thorn in this guys side. If you could post his full name and any other info you have on him that would be a good start. If you would have had a photo of this loser that would have been golden. Once we get this guy located you can really start the fun.
