Jack Freeman claims in his fliers and business cards, to be a “Professional Contractor at Handyman Prices” and claims to do electrical and plumbing work along with home remodeling, siding, roofing, painting, porches, etc. Contractors, electrical and plumbing require state licenses, and GA State Gov. show no mandatory licenses at all. Cobb County shows only a recently issued “handyman” license issued in Dec 2015, even though the BBB shows a file on him since 2007.

He reluctantly signed a contract to replace my roof with a Lifetime GAF roof, in accordance with the GAF requirements, and be paid after all work was complete. He started the installation then asked to be reimbursed with a check (materials only) for $2000.00 for shingles that he claimed to have purchased and were being held at Home Depot.  This was a fraudulent claim – he was only buying a few bundles at a time.

After “installing” some shingles, I inspected his “work” and realized that it was fatally flawed, would leak, and would void the manufacturer’s warranty, along with violating the county building codes.

I made him stop the installation, and demanded that he comply with the installation requirements, which would have required that he tear off everything and start again. When he realized that his scam was exposed, he bolted, stealing my uninstalled shingles and returning them to Home Depot for the cash. He had taken my check for materials to my bank to be immediately cashed, so it was impossible to stop payment on the check.

At his criminal hearing, he claimed that we had an oral agreement (not my written one, and that the $2000.00 check was for his labor and other bogus charges, and I was left with a molded sheetrock ceiling that was collapsing, due to his installation method, which voided all the manufacturer’s warranties. Every bundle of shingles has the mandatory installation instructions, but he claimed they were only suggestions, and not mandatory.

When I filed a police report for fraud, theft by taking, and theft by conversion, I discovered his full legal name: Marion Jack Freeman Jr. He lied his way out of the criminal hearing but I hope to get some satisfaction in civil court. It appears that he has hidden all of his assets in relative’s names.

Using his legal name, I was able to find, doing a Google search, and a Cobb County Superior Court records search, many of his previous criminal activities in the  public records:

Go to the shingle manufacturer’s web sight and use ONLY their recommended roofers!!
