Jackson Hewitt, Franchise Bullys Poor sales ethics, no follow up support bullys RIPOFF Nationwide
Well, my story nags at me every tax season.
2 years ago, I felt the need to send Gloria at Jackson Hewitt $24,000. Not sure why. Oh yea now I remember. I was going to start a franchise here in town, financial freedom Gloria kept reminding me.
Took the training they had to offer, I told them all week that I was not able to keep up, the teacher Ben said "don't worry, we will be there when you need help" right.
Well last year I struggled through the hiring 4 people off the street, that is what JH suggested I do, JH would support any questions, on-line support, simple software. Hmmm ok, I rented a office with the required frontage, 1 year contract, (I am still stuck with that).
Well after last tax season I threw in the towel, I can not go through that again this year. I have asked and asked for my money back, called corp, and Gloria, over and over, but nothing. I really think they sucker in anyone with money, give them no support. They don't care if you succeed or Not. What scammers.

I'm in the same boat with you. I laid out my $, about $65,000 and my plane crashed before tit even took flight. I was told by the city that I was not even allowed to open this kind of business in the area I was in. That there have been several other Jackson Hewitt companies trying to open on that SAME street, and each time they are turned down.
I was told by J/H that the area was mine, scouted out and ready for me. Seems they have been milking that one for a while. I told J/H..the said the city was wrong, but tried to find me another site, much further from where i wanted. I tried to pull out and stop payment, but no dice, they cashed that ASAP.
I was stuck with a business I didn't want. I originally spoke to Carrie Short, so i called her back. Nothing nadda. no answer, no call back. I also tried to contact Jeff Coe again, another liar, i mean rep...nothing. No answer, I emailed him at jeff.coe@jtax.com
I am stuck . I am talking to my lawyers, I mean they lied to me and I didn't even begin my business. I should get some money back!!!
Oh, also, I took their training in Parsippany, NJ, and it was 5 days of common sense and working with forms. Waste of my time. Things i learned in 9th grade accounting.

I owned a Jackson Hewitt franchise for about 3 years in the northeast region of the US. Jeff Coe talked me into it by calling me everyday to get my $. After I signed up, I never heard form him again. Within the 3 years I sunk about $520,200, and brought in about $90,000. Do the math. I lost lots of money, and now my business is closed and I am working part time jobs trying to get some $.
Jackson Hewitt was no help at all. They did not provide me with the assistance, not was my staff properly trained. The clients that came in the first year spread the word that we ran a bad business. They let their friends know not to come to us. I closed down for like 4 months to retrain.opened back up and still. No business. I live in a small city, so I got a reputation quickly for shoddy work, and wrong figures.
Mike Lister is the President. I eventually made enough waves that I received a disparaging phone call from him, threatening me, daring me to go against their EMPIRE.
I spoke to a CPA in my family, looks like I have a case, but I need the $ to pay lawyers with. Anyone else with this problem?
