I am 22 years old and really don't know much about taxes. So when it was that time I went to Jackson Hewitt because of their name. They must be good if they have commercials. I went to the office and the lady started working on my taxes but didn't say one word the entire time.

When she was finally done she looked at me and said that I owed the state over 150.00 dollars. Now I am only 22 so of course Im going to believe here. I started crying because living on your own is very diffiult and that was the last thing I thought I would hear. She said she was sorry but to put the iceing on the cake she told me that if I had a dependent (child) I would have been fine.

Well screw that. I'm one of the few that is mature enough to know that if you can't take care of a child don't bring one in this world.

I left their office and went to my mom who looked everything over and realized that something was wrong. One issue is my 401k was not keyed in. So within an hour we went back to the same office and spoke with another girl. She revewed my tax information and realized that not only was my 401k not put in but that my medicare amount was keyed as my state. So of coarse they would think I owed money.

So then we asked how can it be fixed and it looked like we were talking to a deer in headlights. Obviously had no education in tax service. She called her boss who said she would contact me and also gave me customer service line. And that was it.

After about a week with no call and no help I finally went to antoher office. Which had a bunch of idiots as well who really didn't want to help. Finally one nice lady contacted the head manager who would fix my taxes that night and i could pick them up.

So I went to the same office at the time requested and believe it or not they could not find my information and it was completely different people. Finally the next day I went and picked up the forms which were amendments to correct my taxes. What they did not tell me is that its not going to be until after april before i even see it. Now remember that I payed extra to have these services done fast.

Another kicker is that I get a coupon in the mail to have them done for free next year. I will never go to them and I took that as an insult. They also said that by them doing the corrections for free should make the situation satisified. I have never heard of a company who would charge to fix THEIR mistakes.

My last final words is NEVER go to JACKSON HEWITT because they are uneducated with no sympathy and think we're dumb.

Franchises

Most Jackson Hewitt locations are simply franchises so the corporate office is not responsible for errors at individual ones. If the one you went to was a franchise, there was very little the corporate office could do for you.

Secondly, it is your responsibility to look over all the information that was input and make sure it all seems right. Now I am not condoning the mistakes the employee made, if I was her boss I would of either A)Been watching over her because she was so new or B)Fired her because she still didn't know what she was doing as an experienced tax preparer, depending on the situation.

My main point is that Jackson Hewitt as a whole is not the one responsible for the bad actions of a particular franchise so going above the head of the owner of the said franchise does very little for you.

"My last final words is NEVER go to JACKSON HEWITT because they are uneducated with no sympathy and think we're dumb."

This is the sentance that shows you need to grow up alittle. If you have a problem with the company, fine. But dont say everyone that is an employee is uneducated with no sympathy. Because the ones who arnt like you described are getting crap because of your temper tantrum. If I have a problem with something an employee did at walmart, I dont say walmart is crap.. I say an employee at walmart was s**t. Some people, like my self, work really hard at what they do and like what they do and are good to their clients. Not everyone is like her.. So before you start running your mouth about a company in whole, be sure that you remember the ones that do work there that are good and not make the comment that they are "uneducated with no simpathy and think we are dumb".

Yes I have defidently learned my lesson here. Never again will a company cheat me like this one did. The reason I went to begin with is because I was like it can't possibly get messed up because I have the easiest type of tax income. Thank you guys for seeing that I am in the right here and that Jackson hewitt may not be a rip off because they don't break the rules but they are a rip off when it comes to customer service and satisfaction.

For TaxDirector... Why should Sarah have to pay for the incompetent employee who could not even transcribe information from a W2? She paid for a service that was incorrect. The corporation is responsible for the actions of their employees.

For Sarah. Sarah, taxes are NOT that hard to do. You sound like you have a relatively uncomplicated tax return. A good program like TurboTax or TaxCut is simple to use and should make it easier for you. Most people in the country do NOT need a tax service to do thier taxes. Most of these services are a rip off. And whatever you do, stay away from "rapid refunds" which are nothing but high interest loans.

Good luck!!!

go further than customer service

You have to go further than the "front line" customer service rep. Ask for their supervisors...each branch has to answer to the main coporation...the front line customer service people can only do what they have learned by studying scripts...they really can't do anything. Call back, and ask for the highest in charge.

Good luck...I've heard of this from other people...this company doesn't really know what they are doing. And don't worry about that idiot that posted who works for the company...they obviously don't know what they are doing either...

I didn't just stop with the people who messed up my tax preperation but I called the corporate office. The first few times I did they never had record I called. Then finally I did and they said we'll have the corporate provider call you about this situation. I then said I did not want a coupon I wanted a refund because I paid extra to have these services done faster than norman and now its take four times longer than it would if I did it. They said the only person who can help me on that is the local person. That person is the one who offered me a coupon so of coarse they are going to say no about the refun. I believe I should get one and its hard to believe that the corporate off customer service line can do nothing about it.

You chill out........

I started this reply NOT blaming the client, but blaming the "INDIVIDUAL" for their mistakes, are all people in the "Carolina's" like you?

The "Company" is NOT a rip off, the preparer is incompetent, but the tax firm is not ripping people off, in every tax company and in most EVERY company in the United States, you have idiots and morons working there as well as professional people working there too......should a company be called a ripp off for the actions of a single person or a couple of them?

Have you EVER made a mistake on your job? If so, is YOUR whole company a rip off because of you?

Read what I say before you try to defend your State-mate, she was/is wrong about a company as you are......and look at my tag, I am from California and not the Carolina's *thank God*.

chill out

You need to chill out. One bad apple, can ruin a good business, if not dealt with. Thankfully the original client came forward with her experience, to warn the rest of us. Why don't you take responsibility for your company hiring and idiot, and offer some positive solutions as how to get this fixed. If that were my employee, I'd fire her.

The real world? This IS the real world...you get bad service..it reflects on the whole company. If this is how you deal with clients that have had a bad experience, I'd put your company on my "don't do business with" list as well.

I'd like to hear how the CEO would have responded to this woman in comparison to your response. I bet he/she wouldn't place the blame of his company's mistakes on the client, and tell her to wake up. You need to wake up. Accept responsibility, if you're going to get involved here. The blame game is for kids...

Not a rip off company

#14UPDATE Employee

You are blaming the actions from some mis-guided tax preparers to an entire company, we for sure get education, registered, bonded, have to have 20 hours of continuing education, and extensive testing before we can even touch a tax return...

You ran into some bad people, not a bad company!

Go to whom you like to, but Jackson Hewitt has some great tax preparers and all you need to do is get one bad apple and now you want to fault the entire company.....grow up and look at the REAL picture.
