Complaint Review: Jacob Mereminsky

Jacob Mereminsky (who also operates under a rental company by the name of MVJ holdings) was going to rent me out an apartment in downtown calgary. I paid one of employees my damage deposit $1500 cash and then when it came time to get the keys for the place I went to go and meet his employee at the apartment and she was a no show. I tried calling his employee and Jacob returned my phone call and said his employee was moving out of the country and that the unit was not available due to some scams in the building so he would show me other units.

I went with him to the other units and he wanted $1500 a month for a run down crack house that was under 600 square feet there was no appliances the cupboards where hanging off the walls. I called him later that same day and told him I would not be renting from him as the apartment he had showed me was not of the same value as the one I had signed the lease for, he said fine he would refund all of my money by check I waited and waited for weeks and weeks and nothing came I called him back and he said he was in the hospital and he would have to get the funds through his lawyer.

A few weeks later when I called him out on the scam he was running he told me that he had fallen on hard financial times and that he could not give me my money back and that eventually he would repay me. He has contacted me since to let me know that he apparently no longer lives in Calgary and moved back east to Ontario. That was in 2008 it is now January 2010 and I have filed papers in court to get him and can not find him anywhere at all the address I had been to that was supposedly his office was in an apartment building is not even under his own name.

In total Jacob took off with $10,500 of my money and I will probably never get it back ever. DO NOT RENT FROM HIM OR HIS COMPANY MJV HOLDINGS.
