Jagex (Full name Jagex Ltd) is a comapany who develops online computer games using the Java coding language. It's most notable for working on games such as "Runescape", "Transformers Universe" and their video game website "Funorb" which contains many smaller, assorted games such as "Miner Disturbance" and "Arcanists", all to be played in a web browser.

The main point of this complaint is of their popular online "medieval" MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game) Which I have had a semi-active account for several years. In-game "Membership" and small micro-transactions for various, usually silly or decorative in-game items such as special animations. I had been using membership off-and-on for most of my Runescape experience.

Although Runescape may have a massive amount of players, it's moderation system is relatively poor when compared to other video games of equal size. It's cryptic collection of vague "rules" is a common cause for confusion. Players can "report" individuals for the various "offences", usually resulting in punishment such as "muting" where players cannot use the online chat-system for a specified amount of time (often days, weeks, and even months long), or "bans" where players may not have access to their accounts (whether paid or not)

However, this "reporting" system is very rarely used for it's intended purposes and rather as a weapon against other players (in a show of rivarly and/or revenge). This often results in a stretching of the "offensive text" rule, where although this game contains large amounts of realistic fantasy violence commited using swords, crossbows, and magical spells, a player may have stiff punishments for sexual language and small (oftentimes unserious) offensive languages i.e "I'm Jesus and you're stupid" with very little hope for account recovery if there is any permanent bans or similar harsh punishments, causing significant shock to many dissatisfied paying and ad-supported customers alike.

On the other hand, many customers claimed to have had their accounts hacked and in-game items stolen be said hackers with NO punishment to the hacker and little to no effort to catch and punish them (although theoretically said items could be tracked to a specific account and I.P addresses)

Overall, Jagex is NOT a good company. It terrible in-game "safety", even worse customer service, confusing guidelines and rules, all bundled together to make a totally regretful experience to it's fan-base of customers. Jagex treats it's employees poorly in many cases. While back in 2008 it may have been getting better, this is no longer the case. Jagex has given itself a bad reputation, and for a good reason. Millions of highly dissastisfied people have been made out of this one entity. I suggest you post your story and spread the word about the biggest online rip-off known to man.
