I received a letter stating that I owed $6,920.79 from an old debt that they had purchased from another company. They said they could take another amount of $1,954.58 if I was willing to make payments. I said that I would need more information before I sent them any money and that I would need verification that it was even mine.

His name was James Williams and his computer system was down and he would have to call me back. He called back validating my past addresses. He wanted to know what information I needed to have in order to make restitution, I said I can't give money from a debt that is not mine and I don't know if you are even valid as a company and I will not send money for something I don't owe.

I told him I want more information and that I want to contact my lawyer. He said fine, and if my lawyer wanted any more information he would fax him the documentaion. I told him I needed a few days to see if all of this was valid, he said fine he would put my account on hold. I then went to mamma.com to inquire about this company and this is the site that I found out about.

I have since paged my lawyer and I can't believe that I am reading the exact same thing that has happened to so many people, this has absolutely ruined my morning and has caused me alot of undo stress. I am off of work today and now this has taken away from time I needed to spend doing other things on my day off. I am horrified that this is continuing to happen to people, it is 2003 and we are at war and I have to experience a day like today.

In response to the comments made by Jon, and some of you other debtors, I have a very simple and easy way you can have my company no longer calling you about a bill almost all of you admit to having. Pay it! You people that claim you never heard of these bills actually made payments on your debt for years. I have seen one person to claim has never heard of the debt in his life when I had a copy of his payment history to a company for over 20 years. A very small percentage of accounts that we attempt to collect may be fraudulent; however, the accounts we know for a fact are legitimate people wish to use an excuse like, "it's too old," or, "I dont remember the account." There are no loopholes, my company is not a scam. You internet geeks have nothing better to do than respond in anger because somebody is calling you for what you are," a debtor," without judgement prior, and giving you a chance to explain the reason why you quit paying your bill. What if it was money owed to you, how nice would you be? It's because of people like you that I cant get a decent interest rate on my credit card, and I too at some point in my life went through a financial rainstorm like you have. I'm not saying I agree with some tactics that some of our employees practice. I do agree that there should be there should be punishment leading to personnal suit for some actions of our collectors as well. Bottom line is that your bill will not go away, you owe the money so pay it back. My company is not going anywhere despite what you may read from a bunch of people that stole money. Besides who would you believe? A person that has documents in front of them validating the debt, or most of the people on this web site that probably still dont have anything more than $200 in savings and a terrible credit report to show that they didnt pay other bills that Camco doesnt have yet?
