Jamie King-Jones Mermaid Market Shoppes This consignment shop for local artists failed to pay me for the photo note cards I had on display and sold in the shop over a three-month period. Supply NC
I signed a three-month contract with Jamie King-Jones and paid rent in advance ($300.00) on Aug. 23, 2019 to have my photo notecards displayed and sold in her store. Per the contract, I was supposed to receive a check every month for sales, along with a print out of the items sold based upon the inventory sheets. During that three-month period, I received one check and no printout. In addition, I participated in a Holiday Market in November 2019 and was never paid for those sales.
In December 2019, I collected my two card racks and unsold cards from Jamie King-Jones. Rather than paying me for the Holiday Market sales and two months for which I never received a check, Jamie King-Jones attempted to collect more rent from me.
I filed a small claims suit against King-Jones in an effort to recoup the $223.20 of sales owed to me. During court, King-Jones told the judge she had sent me a second check which I had failed to cash. How ridiculous is that claim?! Why did the first check arrive in the mail and not this alleged second check?! Had I received this alleged check, I most certainly would have cashed the check.
The judge dismissed the case because we did not seek dispute resolution using arbitration, per the contract.
