I went to Jared's The Galleria of Jewelry and began looking at watches when a salesman came and asked if I needed help. We began a conversation about watches and he showed me a watch that was on sale. It was a nice watch and the price was marked down by about $800 which seemed like a good deal. I said no at first but he told me that I could take it home for up to 30 days to think about; he told me that it would not be there the next day if I didn't.

Against by better judgement I decided to take the watch home but before I left the store he checked the fit of the watch and told me that it was loose. He said that I needed to take a link off the watch to prevent the watch from turning on my hand; he also said that it would keep the watch more secure if I wore it tighter around my wrist, so I agreed. I kept the watch for 2 days and decided that it was not what I wanted so I went to return the watch, but I was in for a surprise. The manager, Hilda, did not let me return the watch because the link had been removed. I told her that her seller recommeded that the link be removed in the first place but she said it was against their policy to return an "altered watch."

I tried explaining that I really did not want the watch in the first place but the seller suggested to take the watch home and to have a link removed, but it was too late for me, they had already closed the deal and refused to take the watch back. Now I am stuck with a bill over $2000 and the seller is probably laughing is head off at how he scammed me. The manager would only let us exchange the watch for another watch, but would not let us get our money back. We asked why we couldn't exchange the "unaltered" watch for our money back because it was in its original condition but we got the same answer, "it is against company policy." Practices such as this is partially the reason why our ecomony is falling apart; how can we trust businesses like this when they are just out to get you.

I went to Jared to look at a new wedding band and engagement ring for my wife's special birthday. It seems that when a man walks in Jared, a woman waits on him, and vice versa.

Well, the girl who waited on me at the Mall of Georgia store listenend to what I had to say, but also made sure that I saw her cleavage at the same time I saw the rings. I asked about the refund policy, which was explained to me correctly. I purchased the set, and then the warranty push came. They also charge $17 for a ring to be sized if you don't buy the warranty. After I spent a good hunk of change on a ring, sizing should have been free.

My wife did not like the set, though she did like the idea. I went two days later to return the ring, the salesgirl (a different one than the original) rang up the refund with no problem. Not once did she ask if I wanted to see something else.

I ended up going to a local jeweler, who took time to explain diamonds, and was not happy until we were happy. My suggestion is stay away from the national chains, and go with a local jeweler.

I've never worked at Jared's but I have worked for Friedman's & Whitehall Jewelers. We have always taken back 'altered' watches. It is very easy to simply put a link back and put the watch back out on display. I do know that some companies do not allow returns. Carlyle is one of these. I purchased a Rolex from them a couple years ago, but luckily my sales person warned me not to even wear the watch until I was 100% sure I didn't need to return it. I did end up keeping the watch.

That sales person you spoke to was very unfair to you. He should have told you about their policy, but sounds like he was just wanting to make the sale. They are commissioned-based. He was lying when he told you that the watch you purchased wouldn't be there anymore. It may take a while to get another one in, but they can always get another in.

The only thing I can suggest you do is call up their corporate office and explain to them what has happened. Tell them you have been a long time customer of the company and hate to turn to another company because you had one bad experience. They should contact the store and make them take the return. When I worked for Friedman's, that is exactly what would happen when we dealt with unhappy customers. Once a woman purchased a pair of diamond studs that had a 30 day return policy on them. She wanted to return them 4 months later and had clearly been wearing/enjoying them bc you could see how dirty the diamonds were. Her only excuse was that she couldn't pay for them anymore and corporate made us return them.

I was given the hard sell at Jareds for a ring setting. I was paying for the setting and found out there was a $200 setting fee for the stone. I refused, they offered the setting without the setting fee.I wasn't sure I wanted the setting, they were pushing so hard. I started to sweat, they started to talk faster, and told me I had 30 days to return the ring. I refused, I was lucky, I walked away not $1200 poorer.

Now they are laying people off due to poor sales. Yeah Baby! I have no sympathy for you people.

MY RE4LATIVES IN THE JEWELRY BUSINESS DID THIS TOO BUT IN THE END IT IS YOUR DECISION!

ONE QUESTION; JARED HAS THE LOUDEST COMMERCIALS I HAVE EVER HEARD AND IS ONE OF THE MOT PUBLICIZED JEWELRY STORES EVER!

THIS PLACE IS ALSO EXPENSIVE AS HELL! I COMPLAIN ABOUT HAVING TO pay $5 for an clearance sale watch from the Big Lots Store...

I ALSO STAY THE HELL OUT OF JARED'S BECAUSE I CAN'T AFFORD THE MERCHANDISE AND IF YOU CAN'T, THEN WHY DID YOU GO IN THERE AND WHY ARE YOU COMPLAINING NOW?

YOU GOT A WATCH THAT DEPRECIATES THE MOMENT YOU PUT IT ON BECAUSE THAT'S HOW IT IS IN THE JEWELRY BUSINESS. I HAVE HAD RELATIVES IN THE JEWELRY BUSINESS AND I KNOW A FEW THINGS ABOUT A HARD SELL...

YOU TRY THE WATCH ON. IT IS BEAUTIFUL A REAL WORK OF ART AND THE SMART GUY BEHIND THE COUNTER SEES THAT YOU LIKE IT BUT YOU ARE WONDERING WHETHER OR NOT YOU CAN REALLY AFFORD IT OR NOT. HE FIGURES THAT YOU CAN BECAUSE YOU CAME INTO THIS STORE. HE THINKS YOU DID THE HOMEWORK THAT YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO DO BEFORE YOU WENT SHOPPING FOR A NICE PIECE OF JEWELRY AND HE THINKS YOU KNOW HOW MUCH THINGS COST HERE. BECAUSE THAT IS HOW A JEWELRY STORE PERSON WOULD THINK.

SO HE LETS YOU TRY ON THE WATCH THAT HE HAS SEEN YOU OVERAWED WITH ITS BEAUTY AND I GUESS YOU MUST LIKE THE WAY IT LOOKED ON YOU AS WELL BECAUSE WHEN HE OFFERED TO ALTER THE MERCHANDISE TO FIT YOU BETTER --AT THAT TIME --YOU SHOULD HAVE SAID NO THANK YOU, I WAS JUST LOOKING AND HANDED IT BACK TO HIM. HE PROB ABLY TOLD YOU HOW CERTAIN FILM STARS AND CELEBRITIES ALWAYS WEAR THAT BRAND OF WATCH AND HOW BEAUTIFUL YOU LOOKED WITH IT ON -- THE USUAL SPIEL AND HOW IT WOULD BE NO TROUBLE FOR HIM TO SIZE IT UP FOR YOU. YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THE PRICE AND YOU SHOULD HAVE TOLD HIM NO AFTER HIS FLATTERING SALES PITCH -- THE SPEIL WE CALL IT.

I GUESS YOU WERE TOO MESMERIZED BY THE BEAUTY OF THE WATCH TO REFUSE AND SOI NOW, YOU HAVE ENDED UP WITH A $2,000 watch just when the economy is starting to crash and you might get $500 for it at a pawn shop.

I USED TO HAVE NIGHTMARES OF THAT JERED'S ADVERTISING JINGLE WHEN THE BLING GIRLS WITH THE VERY HIGH VOICES ARE SCREAMING NOTES THAT ARE BARELY WITHIN RANGE OF THE HUMAN VOICE;'IT CAN ONLY BE JJJJAAAAARRRRRED'S"
YOU HEARD THE RADIO COMMERCIALS TOO... WELL NOW YOU KNOW THAT IS YOU GO TO A JEWELRY STORE AND YOU ARE PERSUADED INTO BUYING MORE THAN YOU BARGAINED FOR

"IT CAN ONLY BE JARED'S..." hate those commercials and i bet you do too now.
