These people should be put out of business! Repeatedly called and left no message. Called my soon-to-be 80 year old mother in another state and scared her with their threats. Finally left me a message saying that I'd better contact them over a lawsuit.

I called back and spoke to a very rude woman named Miss Hibbit. She threatened me with a lawsuit, and when I stated that I did indeed have a lawyer, she demanded his name and said she would send him the info. When I told her "No, send it to me in writing", she became angry and said she would do so, but I HAD to contact her within 5 days. She then hung up on me.

I immediately contacted my lawyer, who reassured me that it was basically bogus.... in the state of Colorado there is no way anyone can collect on this debt (which is about 12 years old and was disputed anyway). Something needs to be done about this BS "Law Firm".

Posted on this site back in Nov. '08 concerning harassment on a out-of-date, contested loan. The phone calls continued, 4 or 5 a day, from November until last week. A man named Mel Eckerstrom (I think - I never got anything in the mail from him, so I don't even know if that is his real name) got nastier and nastier in his messages. Called Jason Head and told them to send me some real info on the debt, and informed them that I would not communicate with them via telephone any longer. Blocked all incoming calls from them, but they just kept calling from different numbers. Finally got a lawyer to write a "Cease and desist" letter. This basically brings the law down on them...... no more phone calls, etc. They are required to send you a letter via the mail stating their case (including payment history, etc.) if they choose to pursue the matter. Basically, put up or shut up. They are specifically prohibited from calling you, under penalty of some pretty serious fines. It is a federal law. I had a lawyer compose and send the letter for me, for maximum impact. But I believe you may send one yourself, via registered mail. Just make sure you have all the wording right. There are probably sites where you can download a sample. It cannot be a phone call to them. These people had been calling my 80 year old mother repeatedly, using veiled threats in order to get to me. They know exactly where I live and can send mail to me at any time. They are basically scum, and until confronted with the law, they will continue to harass people through illegal means. That is how they make a living. Don't know if they will try anything else, but at least the phone calls have stopped. I suggest to "fedupfloridian" and others to stand up to them. Do not talk to them. Invoke the law and they just may disappear like the cockroaches they are.

THEY ARE FROM UNISTATES COLLECTION (BAD COMPANY)

These people are from Unistates collection agency. Obviously Jason Head "attorney at law"? was letting these bottom feeders use his office to collect on disputed or out statute debts, or heck even debt that could not be validated. Contact the Virginia State Bar (can do that online). Report them to the federal trade commission (can do that online also). Hire a lawyer if you need to but DON'T send them money.

Here's how you handle a bottom-feeding collector...

I cannot for the life of me understand why people on ROR waste their time getting into pissing matches with these scum-sucking, bottom-feeding wastes of life i.e. debt collectors. In this instance, the solution was clear:

1. Sending a CEASE COMMUNICATIONS LETTER via certified mail, return receipt requested makes ALL calls stop...PERIOD. Upon receiving this letter, the bottom-feeder can MAIL one (1) letter stating their intentions regarding the so-called "debt". If they decide to keep calling, the harassed parties can successfully sue the bottom-feeder for $1000 PER CONTACT due to violations of the FDCPA.

2. PLC, MEET THE PRESS. I would flood my local and city newspapers (as well as someone like Keith Olbermann, who just LOVES to splash companies like this all over his "Worst Persons" segment) with the precise account of what happened - including the name of the bottom-feeder and the companies who are referring accounts to them. Their newfound fame will do wonders for their client base.

The educated consumer is a bottom-feeder's worst nightmare - so make sure you educate yourself, and then watch as they shrivel up like a slug on salt!

TRIED TO SCAM ME ALSO

Steer far clear from these people
From what I can research, Unistates Collection Agency is using Jason Head to collect debts for them. They are a junk debt buyer. Write them a certified letter asking to validate the debt within 30 days. Better yet, if you can pay a lawyer to handle this for you that would probably be even better. Also, report Jason Head to the Virginia State bar. You can go online to do that. I have the address for Unistates and also for Jason Head should you need that. They are horrible. Do not give them your banking info. Better yet in your dispute letter get them to only communicate through U.S. mail. That way you have a copy in writing on everything. PLEASE, don't give them money. They will scam you. I had a "lovely" experience with them during the summer. Seriously, if you can, give them a little dose of a lawyer and report them to the Virginia State bar. It may not do any good but at least it is letting the Virginia State bar know that something is up. Also, report them to the Federal trade commisson. All this can be done online.
