We tried to return some gifts that we received for Christmas this year using the "Gift Receipts" provided.

The store clerk scanned the receipt which brought up the retail price of the item, then she looked up the current "sale price" and deducted the difference so that our actual credit was the "sale price" of each item returned, instead of the actual cost of the item that our Aunt paid.

When I questioned it, the clerk said that was the policy of the store. I would have thought that in this age of technology that when the "gift receipt" was scanned, it would have stated the "actual purchase price" of the item so that the exact amount of the item purchase would be refunded.

Instead, JC Penny decides to only give credit of the current cost (or sale price) of the item instead of the actual cost. Everyone knows that after Christmas everything is on sale. So when you return an item with the gift receipt you probably get less money then your relative or friend paid for the item.

This is a scam that only serves the interest of the store and not the customer.
