To whom this may concern,

I purchased 32 Squares (96 Bundles)of their Teak Color Loose Dimensional Shingles. (They are considered Factory Seconds)

I was assured before my purchase that these shingles had NO Quality Issues, but may have some very minor flaws such as: Color and/or Slight Weight difference between one shingle versus another.  So nothing that would be a Quality Concern for that matter.

I was also informed before my purchase that if quality concerns would arrise and/or damage shingles were be found; that they would be willing to switch out 1 for 1.

However; what is said and actually done are two different things:

I received 3 pallots of loose unpackaged dimensional shingles.  Each pallot of shingles had different characteristics.  What we found as we looked closer at these pallots of shingles;  was more than just cosmetic minor imperfections.  There were quality and stacking conerns.

Pallot 1: Had usable shingles: However, they did have minor flaws but not enough to be a quality concern (Excess Tar to hold the dimensional cut flaps down)

Pallot 2: Had Quality Concerns: The dimensional cut flaps did not have enough adhesive tar to keep them in place.   JC Roofing also stacked them incorrectly on pallot which caused shingles to stick together and tear off the tar strip on the back of shingle that is designed to keep the shingles down on roof.

Pallot 3: Had Quality Concerns: The asphalt granulars were loose and could be rubbed of by your fingers.   Unbelievable!

I brought one shingle in from each pallot to show what I had found; below are the results:

They would not accept them back and/or exchange them.

They told me that there is nothing wrong with the shingles and that they sell Grade A only.

They said that we must have restacked them ourselves...

I do not appreciate the way this company conducts their business and handles their customer service.

Company Response to Report

#2REBUTTAL Owner of company

Our company policy is that there are no returns on loose seconds; they are sold "as is".  This policy is stated on a large sign at the check out counter and is on every invoice printed whether that type of product was purchased or not.  Our company also allows customers to inspect any product they are considering buying before purchasing.

This policy has been in effect from the start of the company selling this specific product and is typically an industry standard so I doubt the honesty in the statement from the author of the report stating, "If quality concerns would arise and/or damage shingles were be found; that they would be willing to switch out 1 for 1."  Our company employs under ten people, all of who know our policy of no returns on loose seconds.

As for the authors concerns of quality and the statement of, "They told me that there is nothing wrong with the shingles and that they sell Grade A only." 95% of loose seconds share the same quality as Grade A shingles but because that percentage is not 100% they are classified as seconds and priced as such.  The cost savings are significant as the vast majority of the shingles are as good as Grade A.  Our company sells both Grade A and loose seconds shingles.  Grade A come with a manufacturer's warranty and loose are sold "as is" at deeply discounted prices.

JC Roofing Supply has been providing residential and commercial roofing products to the Dayton, Columbus, and surrounding area for 14 years.  During these 14 years we have done business with thousands of satisfied customers.  We try our best to assure 100% customer satisfaction but occassionally a reconciliation can not be come to.
