I owed Verizon Wireless $353 for a broken contract. I was in financial difficulties so it sat on my credit report for 2 years. I finally was able to pay thing on my credit report so I pulled transunion and experian because equifax wasnt giving out reports due to some issues they were having and were updating their systems. My debt to Verizon was reporting for $353 and this collection agency was not on my report. I contacted Verizon on June 14th and they actually offered me a settlement less than what I owed. I took it and paid them and they said your paid in full and they even reported to the credit bureaus balance 0.

Two months later I see Jefferson Capital Systems on my credit report saying I owe them $353 for Verizon Wireless. So there was no phone number for them on my credit report so I disputed it with the credit bureau. The dispute came back 3 weeks later accurate and I owed the $353. So therefore I called Jefferson Capital because their number was on the dispute letter from the credit bureau. Jefferson Capital was completely unreasonable stating it was doubtful I paid with Verizon because I did not have a settlement letter. I stated no but had my bank statement with my payment recorded and I would ask Verizon for a settlement letter. They told me Verizon would not talk to me and just refer me back to them so to call for a letter would be a waste of my time and I needed to pay them their money.

I refused and said I would take my chances with Verizon and I would give them all documentation proving this was paid. They did give me the address. So then I called Verizon and they could not locate my file being sent over to Jefferson Capital. They stated they would email me a settlement paid in full letter and they did within minutes while I was still on the phone. They also gave me my account number with Verizon and stated if it was sent there Jefferson Capital could see it in their system as being paid because they share the same systems for accounts sent to them. However, they stated they could not find it at all being sent to them.

So I then called back Jefferson Capital and they said I needed to talk to a special department that was not open and they could possibly verify what their system says with the account number Verizon gave me. I called back and cant get a hold of anyone in this department. They are basically trying to scam me for money I dont owe them and money Verizon did not have them collect. I am going to have to get a attorney to help out with this. I think they troll credit reports somehow and then try to get money already collected. They are scammers ! DO NOT PAY THEM A DIME, GO THRU THE COMPANY YOU OWE IF YOU DO GET A LETTER FROM THEM. Thank god my original payment was to Verizon. Unfortunately these ppl have my social security number and ID info. SCAMMERS.
