My Mom's A/C unit was installed May 2013. By the time the technician was finished, she was told her Freon was down 31/2 pounds at 65.00 per pound, she had white mold with a suggestion of a organic spray to eradicate the mold at the cost of 275.00. There was leaking at the air handler in the attic and he could spray a "stop leak" product at around another 275.00. I reside with my Mother as her caregiver since she has dementia and began to really freak out myself at the problems and costs involved as quoted and responded. "I appreciate being made aware of there issues, but would need to have a dialogue with the original installer, as this unit was so new and could not understand so many issues". The tech (Alex) tried some more, but that was it for me without checking. I called the company who installed her unit and they sent out their technician within an hour and totally, completely stated that not one of those statements from Jem Air Conditioning & More were true! He apologized for this type of business "strong arm" mentality, as it gave them all a bad name, but be assured us that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the Freon, no sign of mold, leaking was old and from the prior unit, not one problem as stated at all!! In fairness I tried calling the company requesting a conversation with a supervisor and received no return phone call, tried again the next day and was told I would receive a call in the next few minutes...again nothing and 3rd time spoke with Joshua, who basically admitted nothing and even implied the other service provider may be at fault...ending with the comment "Since you did not buy any of these services what was/is the problem"?? Really stunned at this point, commented that I see how this works now and that this time they made a mistake and I would pursue this at every level I could. I consider this elder abuse and in Naples, FL this is the majority of the residents.
