Beware if you search for a roommate on roommates.com. BEWARE OF JENNIFER COLE OR JOY ORME AND MANY COUNTLESS OTHERS!! This is the email I received from "jennifer cole" .....

Hello Julie,
Thanks for the mail and i appreciate your efforts towards this .I'm on roomates.com I am interested in renting your room.I will need more info from you regards to the place and also i need to know the deposit that i will be paying before i arrive,,i am currently based in Amsterdam,Holland now with my mom because she works for a missionary school and she is posted down here.I want to move over to the US,Kindly get back to me ASAP with the deposit i need to pay because i will like to pay for the deposit before my arrival and i will like to know the total amount i will be paying for a whole year but i will like to pay the deposit first of all,I do part time modelling and also i have finished with my masters programme.I do model and i have job offers already in the US,I have my masters degree in accounting.My job will be based on contracts so i do not have to go to work all the time,I will only need to go to work 3 times in a week.

These people send you an overpayment and then they ask you to the rest of the money back to them. Lucky, I did not fall for her scam and I found out another person these people tried to victimize on here.... thanks so much!!!!

Posting the names of the people does no good because the scammers use multiple aliases. They also use a number of different websites including roommates.com and Craigslist.

It's better to focus on how they go about scamming people. The key is someone in a far away location willing to send money without having seen the item/location/whatever is being offered. There will almost always be an overpayment and a request to send the remainder of the money through MoneyGram or Western Union. Once the money is retrieved, it can be virtually impossible to track down whoever scammed you.

I'm glad that the OP didn't fall for it.
