Jerold Kaplan Law Offices Midland Funding, Who is Midland Funding Phoenix, Arizona
A document came in the mail that I didn't need to sign for and states that I am a defendant in the Green Valley Justice Court and Plaintiff is Midland Funding. We lost our house in 2009 and didn't do a bankruptcy because all we have is our SS checks but I don't know who Midland Funding is. There is no court date just the document with a CV number that I matched to a file on the Courts webpage but no description although my name is there. I have never received any paperwork from them so have no idea which creditor they represent. Husband is listed as John Doe?
Very strange. I will update as it unfolds.

The same thing happened to me. I received a letter from one of Midland's law fims stating the very same thing. Approximately 2 weeks later, the sheriff showed up at my doorstep with the summons and complaint. I would say chances are you are going to be served either by certified mail or by the sheriff.

You say you got "a document" in the mail that has a court case number. Does this document have a title such as "Summons," "Civil Complaint," "Default Judgment," or some other words? Does it say "In the Justice Court of Pima County?"
If it is a Civil Complaint there should be at least some minimal explanation as to why Midland Funding thinks you owe them money.
I have practiced law in Arizona on my own behalf for over 35 years and I still cannot understand why people sit on their thumbs when they get served with a lawsuit. If you don't understand the rules of court then find an attorney to handle the case. If you do not act within the time limits set by the courts, you lose your money and defenses by default. Bitching about it on ROR does not change that.
