I took my 2003 Dodge Neon for an oil change. After getting the oil recommended by the so called technicians there, the 37.50 oil change ended up costing me almost 95.00 but I ASSUMED they knew what they were talking about and never said anything . Shoprtly after I left, the check engine light came on, then, a few days later, the check oil light. Since i had just had the oil changed, i knew it could not be low on oil. I took it back and after a less than 5 minute inspection by one of their so called mechanics, I was told that the engine was leaking oil bad. But they also said that the oil level was full.

Supposedly, when they had changed the oil the first time, they had inspected it and there was no mention of the oil leak at that time. All the problems occoured withing a week of having the oil changed. The manager was extremely rude and basicly told me it was my tough luck and they had no intention of doing anything else about it. However, i have a lawyer and plan to see what legal action can be taken.

In the meantime i would STRONGLY advise anyone considering having an oil change or any other type of automotive work done to avoid these people like the plague. they are RIP OFF ARTISTS who do not give a d**n about their customers. If you go you WILL be ripped off by these thieves.

I'm a retired Master Mechanic maybe you were a "Leaky oil fIlter" victim and maybe not, go immediately to your dealership and request they check the oil pressure sending unit, if one fails it'll give funny blinks and leak, if so REPLACE IT IMMEDIATELY if it fails it'll spew all your engine's oll out in a minute (Literaly 60 seconds) and give NO warning, and destroy the engine in another minute's dry running)

This will cost you whatever they charge for "Looking at it" (different places different charge) but expect around 50 bucks, it's strictly a safety thing, I'd rather pay 50 bucks than buy an engine anyday.

If needed the sender varies from 15 to around 100 bucks depending on whether it's a light/Gage/Computerized sender.

No leaks at the sender, then forget about it, all OK.

You are right, there is little or nothing I can prove. What I CAN do is warn others so that they are not RIPPED OFF by these lying crooks like I was

You wouldn't believe what the turnover is like at these shops. They are hiring constantly. Semi-trained monkeys handling oil changes is a recipe for disaster. What makes it evens scarier is that these folks aren't satisified with oil changes, they want to flush your radiator and transmission as well. I wouldn't let them flush my toilet.....

"Since i had just had the oil changed, i knew it could not be low on oil."

Did you bother to check the dipstick? It's not unheard of for these oil change outfits to improperly install a filter, which results in an oil leak and the check oil light coming on. Of course, by the time they'd had it for their 5 minute check, the probably noticed the obvious problem, slipped a new filter on and refilled the crankcase. What sort of legal action can you take now? If they're the only ones that looked under the hood or checked the oil level, I doubt you'll have any kind of a case.
