Just an FYI to anyone out there. I took our truck (our only vehicle) to Jiffy Lube and I got the lube job! I went in for a Oil Change and a Winterization (Radiator Flush). I wasn't given a report of findings on what they found, and paid 91.00 for this service! I got out of the parking lot and was on the way to the bank drive thru when the radiator blew at the steams & steam went everywhere!

The engine and I were both hot and steaming when we got to the radiator shop where I was told I needed a new radiator cost? $356.00+Tax (almost 8%).

I called Jiffy Lube to speak to someone there and I was offered another oil change and flushing? Why? Damage was already done, I asked to speak to a manager or owner and what the # was where they were at might be. I didn't get the information I wanted, but I did get a an acknowledgement of liability, so, I started my investigation.

I found out they are owned by Doorknocker Enterprizes, LLC. The Owner is a Mark H and his # is 503-582-0505 they are in Wilsonville,OR.

I contacted Mark and told him what happened, he wanted the name of where we took the truck, which I supplied. He reluctantly refunded the $91.00, for the "service" I got, but had all sorts of questions like when was the last time the truck was serviced, who did it? Did we do any hauling with our truck. You get the picture. Our truck has a heavy duty tow package, however it has not been used to haul anything in several years! We did our own flush last year, this time I was trying to suprise a hard working hubby!

I have yet to hear back from this man and think the next time he tries to "service" a woman he should turn the lights off and the sheets down! Lets be a gentleman and refund the rest of what you owe us Mark! We are a hard working small family, who was forced to take out a high intrest payday loan to pay for the repairs, you have admitted Liability...so now just turn it over to your insurance or do what ever you have to do to make this right and reimburse us our money!

I dont see where they did anything wrong. When you say they did not use pressure to flush it they as some have already suggested, flushed out rust and debri that were the only thing keeping a weak radiator from leaking. When you left and drove 5 miles your system built up normal pressure, about 15 lbs and then the already weak radiator went out. Your lucky he feels generous enough to give you anthing. Consider it an early Christmas present.

I never said you put stop-leak in it. I said it may have been.

I also said that flushing dislodges stuff that may have been sealing up the rotten seals. THAT seems the most likely possibility, as a good seal does not leak, and flushing the system does not damage anything.

The only reason JL would consider paying anything is because of lawsuits. Many businesses have chosen to just roll over at the first mention of legal action. It actually saves them money in most cases.

I guess she didn't realize the first one wouldn't post immediately! So two statements now about how mechanics are dishonest.

Yes, please draw a picture! I am STILL confused on why you keep pointing out that they didn't use pressure to flush the system!

And you are right, they probably will pay you, just so you will leave them alone.

I did watch the NBC investigation about Jiffy Lube in the Southern California area, I don't recall one across the country but anyhow...
THAT story showed how Jiffy Lube DIDN'T do the services paid for, and if that had been the case with you I guess you couldn't complain that they ruined your radiator. So who knows, maybe soon they will claim they didn't actually do your service, refund your 91 bucks and call it good.

BTW Robert didn't say your radiator was leaking when you brought it in, he said it's likely that debris was clogging up leaks (preventing it from actually leaking) and when everything was moving freely those rotten out spots finally gave way.

Hi Robert, you sound like a nice honest Mechanic..I however am thinking Honest and Mechanic are an Oxy Moron!

If you were handling something in a Fine China Shop and broke it they would expect you to pay for it, I don't see how that is unreasonable!

The Truck never had Stop Leak or anything else in it! I never even mentioned that,so why would you think it was used??? Have you been there done that??? It worked when I brought it there! The owner said they don't use any pressure to flush the system, It didn't leak squeek or anything when I brought it there...if necessary I can draw a picture for you! They owe me and will probably pay the rest of the money to me, cause I am not going to go away anytime soon!

Maybe you should read or see the investigative show NBC did on Jiffy Lube's around the country! I am one Hot MAMA! Virginia

I do have a Mopar Radiator that was installed at the factory for a heavy duty tow package that the truck came with. This truck is flushed once a year and has regular maintenance. I never mentioned Stop leak or what ever and I have never used it.

The Reason I think they owe me is I had a radiator with no leaks and no old cracked rings or other parts. I have not hauled anything with this vehicle in several years. it is garaged and Ithe maintanance is all up to date!

The Company admitted liability! Claimed they did not use pressure to flush the system, the heater works fine and worked when I took it in, by admitting liability, they should pay to replace the radiator and I think as a good faith gesture they should pay for at least the interest on the loan we had to take out. They are responsible for breaking something that worked when I brought it to them for a simple flush. What's so hard to understand. If you were in a fine china shop an something you were looking at broke when you handled it you would probably be asked to pay for what you broke. (Lovely to look at, delightful to hold, but if you break it, we mark it sold!).

That's all I want, also, they could have turned this truck away if they thought there would be a problem and they didn't. Maybe I should drive to Florida and have you work on my truck, you seem to be an honest mechanic. I somehow have a feeling that an honest mechanic is somewhat of an Oxy Moron!

How do they owe you anything?

More than likely, your truck has a plastic/aluminum radiator. When the system was flushed, the debris clogging up the leaks was dislodged. When the system made pressure, the rotted out seal let go. It happens.

It happens so often, I won't even bother flushing a system that has stopleak in it. When I remove the cap, I look for the tell-tale signs. When I see the stuff in there, I look for the leaking spot, and sell the repair work. It can be a heater core, radiator, or intake gasket leak.

No repair job, I close the hood and tell them "bye".
