On March 25, 2013 I took my car to Jiffy Lube for a routine oil change. Before going to Jiffy Lube my 2002 Subaru WRX was running in wonderful condition. I had just moved to San Diego last September. Ever since I had gotten a car I have taken my car to Jiffy Lube for my routine oil changes, and back in Oregon they had always treated me wonderfully and taken great car of my car.

My experience at the Jiffy Lube on Miramar Rd in San Diego was a completely different story. I ended up spending 170 on getting both a synthetic oil change (since I have always put synthetic oil in my car) and get my belts changed.

The first issue I have with them is that they put my belts on too tight. The serious issue is that after leaving their shop they messed my car up in such a way that had I been driving on the freeway for one more exit I could have been seriously injured!

They put bad oil back into my car. Their fairlure to render the service that I requested of them cause my car to spin a rod bearing and has caused my engine to fail. I was driving down the road, lucky just after getting off of the freeway, when my engine seized. Luckily I was going at a slow enough pace in a good area and was able to just coast around the corner into a neighborhood (imagine if I was on the freeway still).

I called back to Jiffy Lube, and the manager did send a tow truck to take my car back to the shop (mistake number 1, I wish I had never let them touch the car after they screwed it up). Being new to the area I did not have a mechanic of my own. I asked to leave my car there over night so I could find a mechanic and get it to the shop the next day, since the manager Jimmy who had signed off on the work on my car said that he did not think my car was drivable.

The next day I returned to the shop to pick my car up, showing up right when they opened unannounced, my hood was unlatched. I was curious as to why my hood would be unlatched when it wasn't at the time of my departure, so I took a picture of this. I then had a tow truck come to pick up my car and take it to the shop my uncle had recommended to me.

The mechanic found that the oil in my car, the oil that was supposed to be brand new, was completely black and dirty. They did not change my oil and if they did, they did so with dirty oil. Jiffy Lube is not taking responsibility for their actions and is acting as if all of this is my fault. They are a truly dishonest company.

This particular shop was taken to small claims court just last year for failing to put oil in someones car and causing their engine to seize. They have also received numerous complaints due to their failure to render other services to customers.

I have done a great deal of research on the company, and have found similar issues all around the country. My hope right not is not just that they own up to their mistakes and fix my car, and estimate of $3,500 as of right now, but that they learn for their mistakes. I want others to know that they are a dishonest company, and this needs to stop!
