I have a consumer complaint with Jim Ferrell of Jim's Custom Fence and Decks.   Jim was installing a fence for my neighbor at 6926 Carrousel Dr. S. in Reynoldsburg, OH.  They were using a post hole digger and damaged my underground electrical line (at 6917 Ardelle Dr.)

I have an underground line at my house where all my neighbors have above ground lines because we have a swimming pool.  AEP stated that my underground line is damaged, needs repaired, and is my responsibility because they consider the underground line a private owned line.    AEP said they would "de-engergize" my house in 30 days (by Dec. 1st) if I don't have the repairs completed.  They have my house temporarily tapped into my adjacent neighbors power.

Contractor said he would leave his insurance info on my door.  That never happened.   They quickly finished the job and are long gone.   I have made several attempts to call the contractor and have not gotten a response. Now I have to have an electrician make the repair at $1650 plus I have to find a contractor to dismantle part of the fence.  

The neighbor seems concerned but not very proactive.  He said he would call me back with the contractor's address (all I have is a phone number) and he has still not done this. I am at my wits end.  I am going to be heading into winter with no power.   Any help or exposure to this would be greatly appreciated.  I would be willing to speak to the media.

1.  Did you advise the fence company that you had a buried power drop?



2.  If you did who was responsible for getting a locate done?



I'll have to agree you shouldn't have had to since it was your neighbor getting the work done.



If the fencing contractor is licensed, notify you appropriate licensing bureau of what happened. They will probably be able to give you more information on how to contact this company.



Even if you have to take a small loan, you need to fix this and if necessary take this crook to small claims court.

Your idea of speaking to the media is a good one, call your TV station and ask to speak with their consumer advocate.  I'll bet they WILL be interested.
